Go with those kicker you last posted and the 1800 watt amp. It will be decent sound for the money for sure!

I like jl stuff as well. But their low end stuff is garbage and all the used stuff around ere is good deals but its all been beat up!

Best budget sub i ever owned was the memphis prs though. Memphis doesnt sell their stuff online but if you can find a good deal on some of them pull the trigger! For 100 a sub theyre worth every penny!

thanks hollabak, but with the 1800 watt amp will it cause my headlights to dim, or is that mainly on small cars.
Oh and what gauge of speaker wire from the amp to the speakers

Thanks

Ok, I looked up the specs on the alternator and it is rated at 136 amps on the 2003 dodge ram 1500's(2003 Dodge Ram 1500 - Specs) and i found a review on the Kenwood 1800 watt amplifier and they said they had a 110 amp alternator and their headlights did not dim so that part is figured out,
but anyways, what gauge of speaker wire from amp to subs and where do I need to mount the amp, will behind the back seat with the rear fold down seat mod work(http://www.ramforum.com/f76/diy-rear-seat-flip-down-mod-6980/) or would somewhere else work better?

Thanks
oh would this amp kit work: (I'll probably solder the ends on instead)

I dont think your headlights should dim. Unless your alt and battery are about toast anyway then the extra strain wouldnt help much!

As far as mounting, someone else will help you there. I only have a single cab so my options are going to be limited!

Knu makes some pretty nice wire thats a good kit!

As far as speaker wire? Whatever really. Grab some 16 gauge of whatever brand tickles your fancy and go with it.

You might be able to put it on the back wall, but not sure how thick that amp is. I was about to do it with mine, but I was feeling lazy and just wanted it installed, didnt feel like cutting out the insulation and all... I wound up putting it under the passenger seat, fits perfect, and easy install.

Alright, just ordered subs, amp, amp kit, and some new terminal cups, ones on box were junk, amp and terminals cups are estimated on the 10th and subs and amp kit are estimated on the 13th to the 19th

Thanks everyone for all the information

Ditch the capacitor always. I have a link on my computer i saved explaining why they are useless if i am ever on it and on the forum ill post it. The kicker comps that others have posted about are my favorite budget sub i have owned about 5 sets of them and never had an issue. As far as the kenwood amp you posted, i didnt open the link but is it the 1000 watt or 1800 watt? I have owned both, the 1000 watt pushing a pair of memphis prs, and the 1800 watt pushing a pair of alpine type rs. Both are great amps! A great setup would be that 1000 watt kenwood amp and 2 of the kicker comps. Then you will have to get your wires. I like kicker wires but its pretty expensive and not completely necessary for that system. Audiopipe make a good kit for cheaper and will handle that sub amp combo no problem.

Also dont buy from crutchfield unless you enjoy paying more for stuff you can find cheaper. There are a few websites i have used that are reliable and have great prices.

Take a look at those two

Wow another person thinks a cap is useless.

You are incorrect where ever you read they are useless was wrong.

I will argue this until I die if I have to or just say it once a thread. ;). A capacitor will make any nearly any system better but it must be a big cap not the crap walmart has.

They stop the system from robbing power from truck and make it so consistent clean bumps are possible.

I do agree that not all systems need it because if its a small system you can get by but why not make it easy on the truck.

I also like Memphis for the money I have Memphis amp that is like 5 years old and I have had in two vehicles off and on and it still pounds.

Capacitors... Useless always.
Kinetic "battery" style capacitors are useful to stop robbing the truck of power. But are expensive. But your "fancy" Walmart, best buy, tube style that light up with nice looking LEDs everywhere are useless. They're basically a huge voltage reader and we already have one of those on our dashes :) You're better off running larger wire dropped to a distribution block if your amp wont allow the larger wire input.

I dont wanna start an argument by any means smiley because you're very helpful in just about every topic on the board! Ive used caps and the battery style caps. I just don't personally find any benefit from them unless you spend some good money on one and if you have a system drawing quite a bit of power.

OP congrats on the purchase! Ne sure to post pics when you get it all installed!

amp came in today, I'll mount it and hopefully cut some spacers out of mdf tomorrow, if I can get it cut and drilled in time.
I'll take pics and post if I get it done.
