Our 2005 5.7 Auto transmission 1500 RAM tranny went out with 217k mile. We live near Sacto/Grass Valley CA . Need advise. Whats best /cheapest way to get going again? Thanks

Rebuild the one you have or purchase a reman unit and use your original as a core to return to the seller.

I'd go reman. The last time I had one reblt the builder kept finding more things wrong and it ended up costing much more than a reman off the shelf. Upside to rebld is you keep your original trans. That's important to some people. Start by getting quotes both ways. Ultimate cheapest route is the junkyard if you can do the work yourself and the yard will guarentee that it at least works (pull out of wreck). I've done that a couple of times over the years and have lucked out. Good luck
