while I was adding the fluid and the battery

I looked up your battery and it appears you should have a Mopar BB94R750AA, or aftermarket equivalent.

It is an H7 size, 800cca maintenance free AGM battery.

You added fluid? These are generally sealed and have no access for adding electrolyte.

What kind of battery do you have installed in this truck?

I've been using these for a really long time with no problems. Up here, they last about 6 years.

Post a little confusing at first because you keep switching between Fahrenheit and Celsius, and sometime you just mention a number, such as 30 degrees without qualifying if it's celsius or fahrenheit. Choose one unit F or C and stick with it. LOL!
Anyhow, I would check for leaks and redo the level check fill process.

@EdGs

Ed, I take it you don't have 4WD? I wonder why the green sheet has 4WD procedures for an auto transmission check. There's no mention of putting it into 4WD. I don't think they could have made service more difficult if they'd sat down and purposely tried to. Typical German (and Japanese) craziness. At least the machinery is top notch.
You sure as hell don't want to put it into 4X4 mode Brian,as the tires need to spin so it can make the shift into 2nd,and if the front axle was engaged it's gonna try to drive off your jack stands, lol.

Um, yeah - why would I do that, though? Like Ed says, it's a CYA lawyer instruction against the dumb$hits of the world, of which there are too many.

Sorry for the confusion of switching temps( I go back and clean that up for anyone searching and coming across this to be more clear). I followed the green sheet 100% the second time. The first time I followed everything, but leaving it running(This will result in you being low in my case about 1.25 quarts extra went it with it running), I stupidly shut it off. But now the fluid is good, rechecked last night. Drove it to my sister's birthday dinner and would still randomly get the "proceed in drive" Sometimes for a quick second, so fast you couldn't even read it.

I noticed last night that, again, turning corners and hitting bumps were issues that caused it to come on. It got late last night after having my sister's birthday dinner, so I didn't even pop the hood when I got home. This morning, on the way to work, it was much worse; every bump would cause the light to come on. As I got closer to work, I went around the block on a road the city doesn't maintain well, and the more potholes I hit, the more different messages I started to get. No longer just the "proceed in drive, do not move to park " message. "Service 4WD" at one point, when that one would pop, you have to stop, put it back in park before you could go, and the D light was flashing. Pulled the codes and saw several random codes in the BCM and TCM, nothing in the ECM, and random ones in the IPC as well. I knew it had to be a ground at this point or a wiring issue. I had searched here last night and knew the one behind the airbox and the frame rails were common. Popped the hood here at work and found the ground behind the airbox completely loose. I guess it got pulled when they did the lifers, or it just had worked its way loose. Either way, I feel confident this was more the cause than the fluid, and I don't believe I can now say with any degree of confidence that if your fluid was low, it would pop this message. I think the codes it stored were due to low fluid, but the message popping up randomly was more related to the ground. I am sure it's possible that it would pop that code if low, but I think you have symptoms, not just the random message I was getting. Thanks, everyone, for your help. Hopefully, this is resolved now. I won't know for sure until I get several drive cycles, but I hate when people don't post complete resolutions. I also hate when you can tell they messed up, for example, as I did, but don't admit it because our mess-ups can help someone else. We are all human and can forget stuff sometimes.

FYI, I am my own boss; however, I hate THC, the stuff makes me paranoid and hyped up like a crack head. So I don't smoke. My wife does, and she works for her dad, and it's no secret whatsoever that she smokes its legal here and most smaller employers treat it like liquor as long as your not high at work and it doesn't impact your job they are fine with it if it impacts your job because your high or do nothing but sitting around talking about getting high and make it uncomfortable for those that don't smoke they give you the boot quick. Pics of lose ground for those that may be looking for it in the future.

These days Common Sense has left the room, and if they didn't tell you to not put it into 4X4 mode, some idiot would sue them for millions ,and some dumb-a$$ judge would give them the money:rolleyes:

HUSH, don't U know the "world" is betta with all the nanny boo boo stuff on anything mechanical these days instead of employing the "Brain Box" and allowing Common Sense to rule the day!!!

EX: U go and buy a "new" riding mower. They got more stickers and symbols all over on them things, U need a manual to read the stickers, it is just ridiculous, in my very lowly humble opinion.

EX: Thumbing through a "RAM" manual, there are more points and warnings and refer to this page and that page than an old Funk and Wagnalls Encyclopedia Set.

@Wild one
CAVEAT: No wonder so many people come in the forum and ask, to us dumb questions and everybody tells em to go read the manual, LMAO.

Yeah, no idea why I shut it off. I cannot recall a car in which I have ever checked the transmission fluid with the engine off. If you had asked me yesterday, I swore I had left it running. Just had a slip of mind......

Or maybe it be nice if I could work in my garage with out my wife smoking in there while I am working. Got to love THC being legal in Missouri drives me crazy.
It's the bosses fault for smoking in the garage :anitoof::favorites37:

Also, guys, I apologize for my long post. I try to give as much detail as possible. I also have very poor grammar and try to correct it with Grammarly, but sometimes it changes things and makes it harder to read. I am not as dumb as I sound on the internet I promise :). New to the Ram world, but I am decent at troubleshooting and fixing issues. I honestly bought this truck to sell, but I think I am going to end up selling my Escalade and keeping this truck because I like it. So hopefully I can stick around here for a bit and be somewhat of a productive member of the forum. My area of expertise is primarily in computer networking, IDS, and Forscan, and I am now getting really familiar with Alfa OBD 2. Been around Hondas/Acura and building gt500's and Coyotes for the past 12 years.

That devil's lettuce, I tell you what. She hears it from me all the time; at least now, she will ask and do it by the door with it open. They should put some of these warnings on THC may cause you to underfill your transmission and do other stupid stuff. Do not smoke around people who are trying to do work. I will put up with it because she will hand me tools while standing there, so it's kind of a win for me. Plus, she's easy on the eyes.

Brother, you're doing better than many here we've encountered when it comes to verbiage and grammatical structuring! So, no worries!!!

That you've gone into details about a great many things thus far, i.e. contributing to the Community here, it shows interest and integrity!

Personally, I'd flip the Escalade, too, and keep the Ram...but I'm a biased MOPAR fanatic! :33:

@chris22888, don't ever feel bad about long posts. The more info that's there, the more it might help someone else.

Excellent work finding that ground issue, that's one of the main ones, too. I'm really surprised it didn't throw all kinds of codes on you.

The fact that you can make mistakes, and admit and own them speaks volumes about your character.

I reversed the plug for injector 1 with my alernator field connection, how crazy is that? If I liked the THC, I could maybe explain how I did it, but I do not, and cannot explain how it happened, just me not paying attention, trying to hurry. As much as I hated to admit it, I felt I had to, to possibly help someone else.

Posting up the solution to your issue is exactly what helps others. I'm still amazed how many people post up problems, then a bunch of members reply, and then P-O-O-F (Really, that word gets censored? Talk about nanny stuff), the OP disappears into thin air.

Happy Ramming!

Details are awesome and help us to find solutions faster, but one item that would assist some of us immensely is more line breaks.

Reading a block of text is sometimes nearly impossible for me, even when I'm fascinated by the subject matter. I usually don't attempt to read any while on the phone; that's much too hard on the eyes and brain.

If you scan many posts here, you will see that many members add a line break often.

This might appear irregular or unnecessary if you're using a large monitor, but many of us are using smaller screens on laptops or phones.

TIA

Well, last night we drove it 45 miles to look at a van for my sister, multiple stops, and I drove it to a couple of places today with no random messages, so I think it's resolved and was ground the entire time.

However, it coming up did make me realize I had not filled the transmission correctly, so that was a good thing and probably saved me from messing up my transmission.

My nephew did admit a lightning bolt light had come on, and he didn't know what it meant. So he got a talk about not ignoring warning lights, a good lesson for a 16-year-old.

I do not think that when the check engine light came on, there was no code. I think the codes were just not in the ECM, which is the only place I looked. I had to go into every module and clear the codes to get it to go off. Pulling the battery in this case may have been faster because I had to go into the BCM,TCM, IPC, ABS, as they all had a stored code.

All's well that ends well

My unicorn tear transfer case fluid came today, so I will finish the complete fluid swap tonight. And hopefully enjoy the truck for lots of years. Someone is coming to look at my Escalade today, so it may be sold, and I get to keep the truck.

So glad you're good-to-go.

Great lesson for the young-un, too. Teach him to watch his temps, too and pull over asap when an issue happens.

Great life lessons for him, he will likely never forget.

What trans fluid did you use? Was it Mopar ATF+4?
