Hey all, I'm new around here, just got my Ram recently. I love the truck and honestly couldn't be happier with it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the EPA estimated fuel economy underestimated it's performance if anything. On a recent trip I averaged more than 23mpg driving a couple hundred miles at 60-65 mph on a flat highway. Obviously it does worse at faster speeds or really hilly areas, but this efficiency was surprising to me.

One question I have is regarding the auto-stop/start system, do we have any data on how long the truck has to be stopped for there to be any benefit? I imagine that a quick stop and go where the engine shuts off for less than 5 seconds probably uses more gas than just letting it idle briefly, but I really have no clue. If I'm in an area where I expect my stops to be brief I could just keep it turned off, but generally I don't mind the feature and would tend to just leave it on of it isn't hurting anything.

Welcome to the forum, Others that have the etorque will chime in, all I know there was allot of engineering that went into it, and most if not, all are happy with it.

There are at least 2 types of ways that control traffic signals

In Southern California, most signal lights are timed
Like traveling on Main Street, you come to a light that just turned RED, you would sit at the light for say, 3 minutes & the light would cycle.
If you were crossing the intersection from the side street from Main Street, the light changes & you would wait for 5 minutes before the light would cycle.
In other words traffic will move longer for the Main Street traffic, than it would move for the side street traffic.

If the Intersection was Main Street & Broadway Ave, the volume of traffic would be just as heavy on both roads, the lights may be set at equal amounts of time.
The timed light may save you fuel, 3 minutes here, 5 minutes there.

Up in Northern California, they have intersections where a single vehicle can trigger the light & cause it to cycle within seconds & the other traffic sometimes has to make a sudden stop.
I did not see any reason for the sudden signal light to change, no RR Xing, no short off ramp from a major road, no reason that i saw.
In those areas you would not want your vehicle shutting off

:welcome: I cannot comment on auto stop, not have, tyvm, and I personally have no use for it. That is my opinion. For years, in Germany in Big Cities, U were required by law to turn yer vehicle off at long lights (they even had a "blue" light" that lit reminding U to turn off motor when light was red and went off 2 seconds before light changed, so U had time to start yer vehicle. As an American, that got old, LOL. Guess we R spoiled, hee hee.

Good Luck with yer new ride, maintain, drive and enjoy.
