Hello everyone. I need help. My EcoDiesel 3.0 V6 engine is jammed, they tell me that there is no point in repairing it. They suggest installing a Jeep Grand Cherokee engine. When inspecting the unit, differences in the mounts and attachments were revealed. Has anyone encountered such a replacement? Or should I look for a RAM engine for my ram?

How about asking a wrecking yard or someone who has access interchange books to see which one if any are interchangeable..

First off who's "They"? Dealer? Private mechanic? What caused the "Jam"? Could you use a short block, or aren't they available?
Secondly, swapping to a different motor can be a nightmare, especially going from diesel to gas or vice versa. Different mounts, computers, wiring, fuel and exhaust systems, cooling, etc., etc. It can easily become very expensive.
Probably your least expensive option is to find a used Ram motor.

Yeah… it reads like you’re at a small shadetree shop.

Replace it with the same engine from a salvage…or buy an exchange rebuilt and be done with it.

It’s got a Hemi in it
I’m not sure why you couldn’t get away with swapping the Ram engine accessories and mounts to the Jeep engine. Voila?

Bare block vs bare block should not be different as long as it’s the same generation engine.

I was going to ask the same thing as above.......who is "they" and what is the exact reason they suggested using the Jeep engine. I know the Grand Cherokee had an optional 3.0L diesel. I would kind of expect it to be the same base engine but not 100% sure. Not sure exactly why they would suggest that engine....maybe if it was the same base engine and just more readily available and possibly cheaper at the junkyards? Unless there is a good reason to do it, not sure why you wouldn't look for a take out of a Ram that would just bolt in.

The 3.0 diesel gets a lot of criticism. Were there reliability improvements over the years.

used to be it was all the same, just different accesories

shoot, i got an 360 from an RV in my duster, just needed a set of engine mounts from a B van and it bolted right into that slanted K frame

i can no imagine that in these days of bean counters and cookiecuttercars tony over at fiat hasnt figured out the same engine fits in 5 different cars with just a different set of mounts

I am just thinking out loud, But I think going to gas will be a huge PITA
with all the computers in these. and the fuel system change.
If you where doing the work, sure it can be done,
Having a wrecked truck handy would help.

If you have to pay a shop, I think it would be better to sell the truck to some gear head and just pick up another good used one.

Looking at the OP's location, he is in Russia. There are probably more SUV's than pickups floating around there, and most are probably diesel. As far as the swap from Jeep to Ram, IDK. Pretty sure there are variations in chassis design that the same engine probably has multiple variances between the two setups.

Hi. I compared two Grand Cherokee and Ram engines, they were produced in the same year but have differences in attachments. Also differ cylinder heads, by appearance in the engine from the Grand Cherokee there is no mount for an additional belt tensioner roller in the area of the alternator. Different alternator mount, different location of the oil filter, different turbine and EGR. Different pallet. If these all motors are produced in the same factory, then why do they have such differences. We have little experience with these engines, and I've heard that someone in the United States has tried installing a Grand Cherokee engine in a Ram. I've come to the conclusion that only a similar Ram engine can be installed in a Ram. However, I can't find the exact engine modification for my Ram. The VIN is 1C6RR7PM5FS728917.I know that there is a series of L630 and A630 engines, and this is their difference. I can't find this information.
