Hi everyone. I'm an old guy (72) looking for some help with my 2011 Ram 1500 Quad Cab Sport. I bought it new and have 72,000 or 82,000 miles on it, and therein lies the problem.
I'll state the problem here, not knowing if it should go in garage, interior, electronics or tech section.
On November 12th, 2021 my odometer read 70,707 (I know because I took a picture, I have a thing for numbers) a week ago I noticed it's over 82,000 miles. You can see I only average about 7,100 miles a year and I didn't even drive the truck for about three weeks because of the snow we had here (don't make fun of me, my Old Subaru goes better in the snow and if I wreck it, it's not that big of a deal). It's obvious to me that the odometer jumped 10,000 miles. Has anyone else seen this happen before?
Thanks for any help,
Greg

Welcome to the forum.

I was going to ask if you have any rowdy grandkids or anybody that could have been joyriding in your truck, but that's a ton of miles in 2.5 months, for anybody. I've never heard of anything like that before but am a firm believer that anything is possible.

Do you have any service records that document mileage? If this is some weird pcm anomaly, odds are you'll need se bulletproof documentation.

Any history of sleepwalking or anything of that sorts? Reminds me of the time years ago on the news, a guy woke up to his kitchen a complete mess and his Thanksgiving turkey completely eaten. Apparently he cooked and ate his turkey in his sleep lol.

Do 2011's have an oil life indicator in the gauge cluster? Does it read that the oil's "spent" ?

No oil life indicator on this one. And to answer Withing, I do have rowdy grandsons, but none of them can reach the petals to drive. I guess one could steer and one could operate the petals though, I guess I better talk to them.
I do have my own maintenance records, but I'm sure the dealership won't help me.
Like the wife said, I'll never sell the truck, so I guess it doesn't really matter. But it does make me mad.

Hmmmm, the wife told you to forget about it? "Lucy, you've got some 'splaining to do!" :anitoof:

I’ve never heard of this happening. I would talk to your dealer. Did you by chance check your run time and idle time in the overhead console ?

This has been reported before, I don’t recall what came of it . Mileage is stored in cluster and pcm, so hopefully one is still correct.

Thanks Daw14, I guess I'll call the dealer to see if they reset the odometer.
