Hey everyone,

So I am new here and would love to find out some more info from ram owners! My 2016 is currently getting a new to me engine. Lifter issues.....

I have read a lot about 09-11 and even some 14’s but a 16? Has anyone else experienced this? Have they rectified this in newer engines?

Just curiosity killing me here.

The cam/lifter issue is a 5.7hemi issue not just specific to any year. It can even occur in the 2019’s.

Thanks Ramm.

I am not brand specific for oil or filter but it was always 5/20 full synthetic. Some dealer service and some at a local shop I like to support.

According to a contact at LKQ today he mentioned that full synthetic is a killer. Run mineral oil.

Thoughts?

That is very wrong information. Do some research on the forums you’ll find endless posts on the oil guru’s on here.

Stick to either Pennzoil Ultra Platnium or Redline oil with a 10-48 royal purple filter. People swear by switching to Redline 10W-30 and it quiets the tick

Can we stop engine failure by using a different oil, weight or formula? If you are looking for proof of that, you wont find it here or likely anywhere. I guess what we have done at Ram forum is simply research the issues, research the formulas and additives, and made a more informed choice on what to use, and tested the hell out of it. Is it gonna extend the life of our engine, maybe and maybe not, but what difference does it make? Why not choose a heavier oil with more aw/ep additives? Read the quieting hemi tick thread in my sig, see one members journey with oils, video's, uoa's, etc. sorry you got snake bit, you have to pay for it or warranty? 5w30 redine has more success then the 10w30, just fyi.

Haha I definitely meant 5W-30. Was half asleep on the couch typing that last night

We often dismissed RP oil as a solution due to their moving moly levels, but we may have over looked them tbh. There is evidence that their oil does have some ester content and their latest version likely has good moly level. There is some science behind that as a strategy. We'd need some more examples and some uoa's like we have been getting with other strategies to get a forum buyin I think. But it does make sense.

They have tried to fix this, but they havent fixed this. One attempt was to have larger needle bearings, did not help hemi tick. High Performance oil has been the only weapon we got in this deal, with some success. Is OP still around? He got the bad news and took off, lol.
