so i have a y-pipe instead of muffler right now but im getter a super 44 series single in dual out muffler. i have 3" pipe going in and 2 1/4" going out. can i get a 3" inlet and 2 1/2" outlet or 2 1/2" inlet and 2 1/4" outlets. if so which would be better/easier to weld? any suggestions would help

Take the 3" to 2.5"
Going from 3" to 2.5" inlet dia is gonna choke up your flow alot, not to mention the welding and ******* around required to go from 3 to 2.5 before you get to your muffler!

Match the input of the muffler to the output of your pipes. You do not want anymore backpressure than necessary like hemihustlin said.
