This list by Consumer Reports contains some surprises and perhaps some brands we haven't heard of.

Though some will disagree, some brands to avoid include many Autozone house brands, and others!

When it comes to consumer advice, my advice, for what it is worth, is to ignore Consumer Reports (for everything, worthless rag!). First off, not all branded batteries are available everywhere. Second, only a handful of makers are turning out batteries with different logos on the battery case.

Buy the battery on sale and cross your fingers that you got a good one.

I'm an optima red top fan. I've had them in my diesel for years. Froze them three times, put em in the garage thawed and charged them and good To go. They lasted 6 years so I can't complain. I live in a cold climate so any batteries up here see vicious cold.
