Never had this issue before and honestly never had to patch or plug a tire.. just found this when my tire pressure dropped from 40 to 29 in a day after being filled and suspected that something was wrong.. Looks like it's a nail stuck in there.

You all think this is something that can be fixed with a plug or patch? or is the tire toast? Screen Shot 2021-08-17 at 10.06.14 PM.png

no reason why it can't be plugged, unless you get a shady tech at the tire shop.

It can definitly be plugged, by two different types of plugs.
The cheap ones like most people have and use that are installed with the tire still on the rim.
Then there is a much better one that requires breaking the bead and installing from the inside of the tire.

These do a much better job, they are a bit more work to use.

For those of you pushing for the do-it-yourself plug kit, those are meant for temporary use. To get you home or to a tire shop if you have a puncture while out on the road. They can and do often last for a long time, but they can also fail fairly quickly. The proper repair is to plug and patch from the inside. The patch/plug combo things LouM posted didn't exist when I used to work on tires back in the early and mid 80's, but they look like a great solution.

are now doing a Plug & then a Patch

Tire Rack recommendations

Hemmings recommendations

, the manufacturers that do permit patching of a radial tire all recommend that the injury be repaired from both the outside and the inside as soon as possible, to prevent further deterioration of the tire carcass.
