I'm 42 years old and have had 15-20 different vehicles but never a truck or a Dodge. I haven't owned a vehicle from the Big 3 since I had a 1974 Z-28 in high school (built 427).

I currently have an Infiniti G35x sedan(paid off).

I'm currently looking at the following. I'm wanting to buy a pontoon boat in the next 6 months and need something to haul it.

2013 Standard cab (Garage won't hold anything bigger)-Sport
5.7
6sp auto
3.55

Customer Preferred Package 25L
Convenience Group $ 495
Automatic High Beam Headlamp Control
Keyless Enter-N-Go
Rain Sensitive Windshield Wipers
Comfort Group $ 395
Heated Front Seats
Heated Steering Wheel
Anti-Spin Differential Rear Axle $ 325
Sport Performance Hood $ 775
Chrome Wheel-to-Wheel Side Steps $ 600
Single Disc Remote CD Player $ 195
ParkView Rear Back-Up Camera $ 200
Power Adjustable Pedals $ 125
Class IV Receiver Hitch $ 335
Trailer Brake Control $ 230

Total MSRP is $40,575
The dealer has it listed for $35,547

What should I shoot for with price? Why doesn't this come with the 8 speed? Any other options I should get?

The 8 Speed is in some late model 13's but most seem to be falling over to the 14s. Looks like that one has a good amount of options for what you are going to do with it. Depending on the size boat you may want the 3:92 gears. The Alpine 590watt and 8.4AN are nice editions.

Now that Doge has announced the 14's keep an eye out for incentives on the 13's, over 4th July and Labor day -

Just my 2 cents -:welcome:

Welcome.
If you compare with Furd, Gubmt Motors, Toyricer and Datsun :)Sumo:) trucks you will find the RAM is hands down the best in performance, looks, and price. I'm guessing your pontoon boat and trailer are well within the pulling capacity of a RAM 1500 Express with 3:55 rear end. A 3:92 rear-end will probably make things a little Squirrelier on the wet boat ramp at pull-out unless you are also going with a 4X4.

I figure I may as well go with 4x4. At least for the resale alone

Well I got the numbers back and I didn't like them. Offering me $3k less for my trade in then KBB. They are only coming down $5k off the MSRP on the Ram.

Welcome to the forum!! Just to frame the pricing for you...my truck's sticker price was $48,000 and some change, I wound up paying $38,000 and some change. Also traded in my old Ford Escape with 200,000 + miles and got $2,000 for it.

The problem I'm having is that there is a very limited selection of standard cabs and even fewer Sport editions. There are over 500 Rams in a 20 mile radius and only one Sport/Standard model. The dealer is telling me that they don't have as much wiggle room on the Sport/Standard cab models. I call BS.

Big BS because when you go to sell it there is a very limited market to sell it in. Very few people that actually want a used Reg Cab. I played that to my advantage when buying mine. Payed 15k for my 2011 and had less then 10k on the odometer.

I may have to consider the quad cab and then just park it sideways in my garage.
