I agree with Hinzy

With the crew cab I think the smaller bed look disproportionate the the front of the truck

I'd go with the 5'7'' that's what I have and I've never had a situation where I needed an extra 10 inches of bed space

I bought a 16 Sport Quad cab with the 6.4 bed. I kick myself for not buying the crew. I could not see having the 5.7 bed. the bed is just long enough to the job of many things. hauling plywood, boards, etc. things that would hang over the tail gate. and the looks of the 5.7 with a crew looks off

KC thanks. Fortunately, both are crew cabs! I need the crew for the little ones in car seats!

Id go with the second one listed. 3.92 would be more important to me over the bed, plus as mentioned you are getting more options.

Thank you, mohemipar.

Hell truck 2 has the 3.92 gears dual exhaust 32 gallon tank.

this! I have 3.21 gears and its not slow but it aint fast. Plus the 32 gallon tank is an addition. Traveling far with 26 gallon is horrible. I get about 17 with a lift and 34s.

This says it all-even though I like the 6'4 bed for my yaks and gear.

Leather-Trimmed Bucket Seats $1,545
Heated and Ventilated Front Seats
Trailer Tow Mirror and Brake Control Group $715
Power Black Trailer Tow Mirrors w/Manual Fold Away
9-Speaker Alpine® Premium Audio with Subwoofer $345
9-Alpine® Speakers with Subwoofer
3.92 Rear Axle Ratio $95
Anti-Spin Differential Rear Axle $435
Power Sunroof $1,095
Sport Performance Hood $775
32-Gallon Fuel Tank $355
Uconnect® 8.4 NAV $795

I wish I had all these items. Especially 3.92 and anti-spin. Will never get a truck without that again. You will know when ur slipping and u start to fish tail.

I'm a 5'7" owner. If you were hauling stuff constantly the larger bed might help, but I can fit plenty of mulch and other gardening materials for the wife and never at any time when picking up materials at Home Depot that I ever said "damn I wish I had the longer bed".

Mine is the 6.4 bed crew. I would never have a truck with 5 ft box. I work out of mine though. As for parking the wheel base is 9 in longer. Now if it was a 2500 crew with the 8ft bed I could see more of a problem parking.

I bought my 1500 CC with the 5'5" bed and thought that it would do everything I even needed it to do. I'm now in a 2500 CC with the 6'4" bed and couldn't be happier.

Lol i was gonna say, if you really need the space of 6'4 bed you might as well just get a 2500. I could be wrong, but i do believe the 1500s lose even more payload with the 6'4 bed. And it aint great to begin with.

Schmittj22, thank you very much. So, with the anti-spin, I won't fish tail as easy?

ExpressRules, thanks. This is more like what I will be doing. Going to Home Depot, picking up some things, and getting much in the spring.

Better acceleration then the 3.21 gears. Little less mpg but better off the line and hauling towing

clh1220, thanks. Yeah, that is why I am torn because I don't work out of a truck.

IMO the 5'7 box looks silly small on a crew cab and disproportionate but everyone has their own opinion/likes.

Mine barely fits in my garage so that may be something to consider as well.

Agree and true.

They do look a little disproportionate and with the longer bed, no way would I fit in my garage.

My 2015 ram 1500 had the 5'7" bed. When I upgraded to the 2500 I have the 6'4" bed. Even though I do not haul a lot of stuff in the bed of the truck I prefer the 6'4" bed over the 5'7"bed

I disagree, the 6'4 bed is the standard length on most any full size truck. The 5'5" is considered short bed. So if you are used to the normal size bed then the 5'5" seems short. Hell, the Chevy Avalanche has a 5' bed.

Drive both and get on some side roads with it, pull into someone's driveway to turn around or even go for a 3 point turn and see how you think each one maneuvers. The bigger gas tank is a plus but is it much different than just filling up more frequently? I have the crew cab with 6.4, it was a must for me and to me the 5.7 bed looks so strange on a crew cab.

If you prefer the features of the shorter bed go for it, it doesn't sound like you are going to regret it and you can always hang something longer off the tailgate with the infrequency you'll need to do it you shouldn't have any issues.

Either way congrats and enjoy the new truck!

Its a valid point and I def get where youre coming from. There have been a small number of times I could have used the extra length. But only with awkwardly long things. I dont even know if they would have fit in the 6'4 tbh. I guess it depends on what you are using the truck for. The main thing i put in the bed through out the year are loaded pallets and they have no trouble fitting but I'd like more payload. So im probably looking at a 2500 soon. But for this guy and his uses and what both trucks are equipped with, i just dont see the point of going with the 6'4 bed. If both had the same options, id say have at the 6'4 I suppose.

For me, the looks of the short bed arent an issue. I guess it looks a little stumpy if you really stare at the truck, but IMO the 6'4 bed also doesnt look quite right on a stock 1500 because the trucks are way too low to the ground from the factory.

Out of curiosity I was actually just checking the bed lengths for Ford and Chevy, the F-150 short box is 5 1/2 ft and Chevys site SUCKS so i gave up. But it looks like a similar 5 1/2 ft size. I think Chevy just usually has their longer bed stocked on dealer lots a lot more than the short bed. Ford's seem to usually have the short bed as well when I see them on the road. So its not like Ram is the only truck running around with a short bed.

I opted for the crew cab with the 6'4 bed. Two reasons

1). I do use the bed often so I wanted the extra space.

2). Crew cabs with short beds like odd to me, like something is missing. it makes the truck look silly in my opinion.......and that's just my opinion.

When I look at my crew cab sport with the 6'4 bed, it just looks so much more "complete" in its stance with the bigger bed.

Just my 2 cents

Yea. Seems like the short bed is becoming more standard now. I'm just used to the 6' bed and I haul a lot of lumber. All personal preference on what you want your truck to do for you.

Just took delivery of 2017 CC, 6.4 bed and couldn't be happier. Previous truck was a 2015 QC, 6.4 bed. Great truck
