New to me topper

Picked up a used topper off of craigslist last weekend. It came off a 2011 Ram 3500 Crew Cab with brilliant black paint code. My concern with the topper was the color not matching very well with my black 2015 but as you can see in the picture it looks pretty damn good. The topper is a A.R.E CX brand with upgraded side doors and a drop down front window. I drove 2 hours to Iowa to pick it up for $350. No scratches in it.

What do you all think?

Yeah it took me a while to find one. Make sure you stick with the ones for Crew Cabs. The Quad Cab ones will fit but the gaps will be off at the top. I found one that was a perfect fit for color but it was a Quad Cab version so I passed. I was looking for 6 months before I finally found this one.

I was considering a used one in the wrong color and getting it painted till I found out that it would cost $500 to paint.

always liked the look of a topper on 3/4 and 1 ton truck but always felt like a tonneau cover was better for me. I want to try one but its an expensive experiment unless i get a deal like yours.

I have the 6.4L.

Love the truck. I sometimes miss the power seats and center console but I couldn't afford the one with all the bells and whistles at the time. Love the crew cab and the space that you get in the back seat. Kids like it too. Tows my boat and anything else I want without issue. Everyone asks me "3/4 ton truck what do you tow that requires that? What ever I damn want!" Had it over a year and just put 4k on it... Yep 4k. Should last me 10 yrs or more at that rate.

Should last you 15-20 if the body will make it. I put 8-10,000 a year on and plan on it lasting me at LEAST 10 years.

The dealer I bought it from offered me a lifetime rust prevention plan that extends the rust protection from Ram to cover not just rust from inside out but also surface rust. The only catch is every year I have to bring it in for them to apply there paint protection on it. So I get a buff and wax every year. So you may be right at 15-20 yrs.

So I paid $600 for this when I bought the truck. I got it because I knew I would be keeping it for a long time and after fixing the rust on my 06 after the rust warranty ran out I decided I needed extra rust protection.

The dealer sells it as an add on to the factory rust warranty which extends the warranty for as long as I own the truck. All they do is inspect the paint each year and then they buff it out or detail it with buffing compound. If I get surface rust on the body of the truck they will fix it as the factory warranty doesn't cover it. Once the thru body rust warranty expires then this one covers all rust the rest of the way through the dealer. The kicker is I need to bring it in on or around the time I purchased it each year. Takes them about 2 hours to complete.

Living in Minnesota where they salt the roads like crazy I thought this was a no brainer. Heck I get a detail job done on the truck each year and I know that usually runs $100 or more to have it done by someone else so after 6 yrs I will be saving money.
