Hey Everyone! I recently just upgraded from my 96 Sierra to the 18 1500 Sport. I’m all new to the dodge game and was wondering with my model what are some of the long term things I should look out for etc.

Thanks in advance guys!

Welcome to the forum! About the only problem you’re almost guaranteed to have at some point is broken exhaust manifold bolts. A small percentage of owners have also had cam and lifter problems not unlike that of the 2007-2013 GM 5.3 AFM engines. It may happen to you and it may not when and/or if is anybody’s guess. Swapping over to a thicker weight oil (5W30) with a high Moly content and Zinc to a lesser extent is highly recommended. Startup valvetrain noise is quite common too and can be eliminated by switching over to the heavier weight oil and Redline 5W30 is what many of us use to eliminate this noise unaffectionately known as Hemi tick.

IMHO the main thing you should watch out for is the advise you get around here about what you should do to your truck----it can get realllly expensive, reallllly fast. However there is a thread on things that you can do to improve your truck for under $100. Congrat's on the new truck---and we really like pictures around here.

Welcome to RamForum.

As with any vehicle, over the long term just make sure service the vehicle as recommended.

Congrats on your Ram purchase!
