Please HELP! I have a 2018 1500 "Big Horn" with a 8 speed HP70 transmission. I bought a pan/fluid kit from "Blauparts." The kit came with six quarts of Ravenol 8HP Fluid. After the swap I drove the truck about 5 miles no issues. Last night after about 15 miles it started to have hard shifts from 2-1. I used about 5 and 1/2 quarts to refill. I called this morning to the parts department at the local Dodge dealer and give him my vin number, he said the transmission held 8.7 quarts? I followed to "Green" paper fill procedure, however not sure I leveled it correctly ( I put a level on the bottom of the frame). I did not put a level on the actual transmission, could I have not added enough fluid or too much to cause this issue? Was thinking of just redraining and replacing with new fluid. I see a lot of talk about OE Mopar fluid verse Valvoline Max-life, has anyone used Ravenol before??? Any suggestion/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Whole I'm no expert on the prowess of all transmission fluids.

I do know that one ONLY wants to use either the OEM MOPAR or the Valvoline MaxLife transmission fluids in the 8spd transmission.

The back end needs to be lifted so the "transmission" is level ;)

Levelling the frame doesn't do you much good,as the transmission is still sitting downhill. I don't have any experience with the Ravenol fluid, but if it's shifting weird with it,i'd get it out of there ASAP and replace it with either OEM fluid or MaxLife, and this time around jack it up high enough to level the transmissions pan rail.

Get yourself one of these. It makes adding transmission, transfer case, and differential fluid super easy.

Following the procedure that’s posted everywhere on this site, with a level transmission, my drain and fill with a new pan was a hair less than 5 1/2 litres. I used top tec 1800. No issues after 15000kms.IMG_4051.png

thanks. i will get one. transfer case and diffs are next.
This is my modded garden sprayer, mines the 1 gallon variety, but the 2 gallon versions work good to.I made up a couple differant ends for differant uses, like getting diff fluid back into my wifes Challenger with a diff brace on it.

Truck needs to be running, and you should go through the shift procedure again before pulling the fill plug. I'm betting you lost a bunch of fluid before you got the plug back in place, lol.
You were right about levelling the transmission, but you messed up by not going through the shift procedure before checking the fluid level .
