2022 2500 with 6.7 Cummins and the 68RFE. I have about 61,000 on it and do moderate towing of travel trailer ( maybe 8,000lbs loaded) through the mountains. I want to change my tranny fluid and filters which I bought from Doc’s Diesel. I was going to take it to the shop out of laziness and the no drain plug was a foreseeable mess on my garage floor, then after hearing most shops only do a transfusion and claim no filter replacement is needed I decided to suck it up and buy what I needed to do a clean job and get it done. The question is what is the best solution here a full fluid and filter change like I planned or the transfusion?

Drop the pan, remove the 2 old filters, install the new filters, reinstall the pan and refill with ATF.

You're already committed since you bought the parts. I'm not sure about the transfusion quite honestly, plan A sounds most appropriate. I got everything to do mine as well. Just not comfortable doing it without a lift to ensure it's nice and level and go through the proper order of operations when refilling. The idea of doing all that on jack stands worries me, but likely isn't a safety issue. The mess can be navigated. I'll probably just pay a shop to do it. I would call around, there should be a shop that will do it for you.

FYI his trans does not need to be leveled its a 68RFE 6 speed and not a ZF 8 speed

Drop pan do filters is 8-9 quarts, you cant flush torque converter and lines w/o flush machine. There are guys that waste those 8 quarts just to do filters only to then run it through a flush machine. I usually just drop, drain and fill. Its best do overnight if using gasket maker, dry empty pan and attach to flange and in morning fill with fluid.

this exact piece from this seller a must have imo

@06 Dodge . I had no idea newer models still came with that trans or if 6.7's always come 6 speed, I have always had gassers. I'll learn more about Cummins here real soon ;) Agree, he can do the change, prep for spill!

The ZF 8 speed (aka Powerline) behind the Cummis did not get introduced until the 2025 model year an as I understand it that trans does not need to be leveled to refill it...
