I just bought a 2011 ram 1500 crew cab with 51k on the odometer. Has like an inch bigger all terrains, some sort of exhaust, and is 4x4. Fresh oil, filter, and air filter.

My girlfriends mom has a 2009 ram 1500 crew cab as well with 140k.

The 2009 runs like a scalded dog. My truck is pretty slow feeling compared off the line. Is there anything that would cause this? I know mine will be a little heavier, but i dont feel its enough to cause the difference. Maybe gear ratios? What do yall think?

If it was owned by a lil old man before he probably babied it. Try disconnecting the battery for 30 mins and then drive it like you stole it for a couple days. Then it'll probably be quicker.

If say gears are the biggest difference. But a relearn on the computer couldn't hurt. Do like HLram said and pull the battery cable for 30mins or so and try again

As already mentioned, gearing is the first to check. This may be compounded by the larger tires.

"Some sort of exhaust" may be another thing to look at. If it's one of those 'let's cut all this out and put in a glass pack' it's probably not helping.

Why would this help?

the ECU learns your driving habits. Throttle percentage off the line, etc. If someone babied it before you, the throttle ramp is a lot flatter than for someone who drives the **** out of it all the time.

I'd take it a step further and do the throttle calibration detailed in another thread on here in addition to the ECU reset.

Additionally though, if your truck is geared 3.21, and her mom's truck is geared 3.55 or 3.92 (don't know enough about the 09s, but in my 14 with 8spd it's only 3.21 or 3.92 option), that'll make a big difference too.

As mentioned, larger tires exacerbate that, giving you an even shorter effective gear ratio, and slowing the truck down further.

I think 4x4 only come with 3.55 and 3.92 in 09s.

But the reason is because 09s are the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!! hahaha:roflsquared:

Well her mom drives like a bat out of hell in the 09 which is 2wd as well. I know the tires are bigger but they arent much bigger. Seems slower than just slightly bigger tires should make it. I have both our vins i can run them to see if our gears are different. I will try the computer deal when i get home. The exhaust shouldnt bog it that much right?

Like said before.... the computer adapts to your driving habits. Mine is to the point where even if I'm only pushing the pedal down 1/4th of the way, it will drop a gear and get ready to take off.

Makes it feel nice and torquey. If you do the computer reset, it might still take a couple days before it gets to where you want it. Without the reset it could take a couple weeks.

i'd bet the gears. you're probably running 3.22 while she's got 3.92. if you go here and click equipment listing on the left you can get a full list of what it left the factory with

[edit] didn't realise how old this thread is lol

Turbo, throw a set of 4.10s and a Hemi Fever tune at that thing and show granny the back end of your disappearing Ram. My 545RFE, and I are both much happier since I did 4.10s.
