This is just a curiosity thing that's all. A friend of mine bought a brand new 2016 f150 sport 5.0L with dual exhaust and I noticed going for a ride in it that it has a really nice rumble on acceleration that I don't hear on the RAM unless you put an aftermarket exhaust in. I'm just curious why that is?

It's because they use big, quiet, mufflers..

The ram sports also have a slightly more rumble with the sport oem muffler.

They just used a more aggressive muffler.

The nice thing is you can utilize your existing dual setup and just swap mufflers. There are a lot of muffler options and lots of threads regarding people's opinion and current setup too.

I don't think there is a different muffler for different trim packages. The Sport package is mostly an appearance option.

I'll have to do dome digging around but it's been discussed on here. I think it appeared on some people's build sheets too.

there are guys who own laramies who had their trucks running next to sports and the sports were reported to be louder, so i think there is a sport muffler and a non sport muffler.

There is a different muffler. If you look into the specs and all that you'll see the Laramie and other Hemi trucks having just a dual exhaust and Sports having an AGGRESSIVE NOTE dual exhaust.

Sport muffler

I just went out and measured my sport muffler. It is 26" long.

If someone will measure their muffler (not sport) maybe we can shed some more light on whether the sport muffler is different?

Look up the build and check part numbers?

The half-tons do have a bit of a rumble. It's us poor 6.4 owners that suffer with the "hair dryer exhaust syndrome".

Learn something new everyday. I wasn't aware there was a difference. Mine had a decent rumble with the stock muffler, but it wasn't quite enough. Swapped out the stock for an 18" Magnaflow.

Chances are they are the same on the outside - just different sized holes in the internal tubing of the muffler. They did the same thing on the LX cars - the regular R/Ts had a twin chamber suitcase muffler where the tube was virtually straight through, but it dipped down about 2" the length of the inside of the muffler, and had 3/8" holes perforated in the tube within the muffler - the Daytona and SRT muffler on the other hand looked identical to the R/T muffler but the pipe was indeed straight through and had 5/8"x1" slotted holes in the pipe within the muffler, giving the Daytona and SRT a much more aggressive rumble.

Well, I suppose the chances are that they are the same on the outside, but we don't actually know that unless someone would measure the length of a factory muffler. Not hard to do, takes maybe thirty seconds. Come on, somebody?

They make them loud so you can't hear the wind noises and whistles they make from the poor workmanship used to assemble them. Here is what I traded in on my 2016 Ram.

I like the stock sound of the ram. Unlike a Silverado it actually has a sound.

Just measured my oem one sitting in the garage. 26". But, the inside can be a little different to change the note.

No F-150s have dual exhaust from the factory, they might have dual tips from the passenger side but there is to date a single F-150 that has duals from the facotry. Im a new car director at a Ford dealer. So it was aftermarket. The 5.0 is a **** but sounds good with a flowmaster or borla. The 3.5 ecoboost sounds like a ricer with exhaust but man it is quick and powerful.
