I went up Tahoe a few weeks back and the driveway to our cabin was on on steep hill. I was in 4 wheel high but when I made the turn I slid down a few feet into a snow bank. Being in 4 wheel high I figure I’m ok. So I tried to gas it and let off to rock it back and fourth. It barely moved. So I literally floored it and my engine did t even rev over 2500 and would move the truck. Was that a traction control thing that’s still on when in high ? I put it in low and it revd up and pulled itself out easily. I’m wondering if I have an issue with my truck or not. 2014 ram 2500 mega cab il 6 lifted 4.5 “ 6 speed auto. Thanks for any input

That is exactly how it is supposed to work, 4x4-low is what you use for that, 4x4 high is what you use for a little extra traction in slippery conditions.

Thank you. I’m new to the diesel family and my 06 dodge hemi would just spin and rip no matter what. Thanks for the info.

In 4 HI if you push and hold the traction control button for a few seconds it will shut it off almost completely... almost. It will still kick in a little, but only if you're spinning like crazy. The traction control has it's place, but it would be nice if the button actually shut it off completely.
