Hello, this is my first post, just joined in order to get some insight into an issue I am currently having. I apologize if this post is in the incorrect area.

I recently had a blown head gasket. Took it to a trusted mechanic. One completely new head, the other was machined. Once in, he put all new plugs, fixed some cam wiring, new exhaust bolts (was leaking), new thermo, etc. I replaced the fuel pump last April after it went out.

Truck ran awesome after the head job, no problems for a little over a week. Got in it yesterday and I'd didn't want to start. It cranked real nicely but wouldn't fire. Battery is good. No codes being thrown. All gas is bought at QuikTrip. Tried to start a second time and gave it a lot of gas and barely caught it when it fired, but it stayed running. No rough idle, no rough driving. Drives great.

Started it later on a few time and it fired right up. Started it later and it didn't want to go again, just cranked and might have even fired once but didn't start. Same thing as before, gave it a second go and barely got it started.

So it has been off and on the past couple of days. I'm worried about being stranded somewhere now.

I can hear the fuel pump buzzing when I turn the key to the on position if I listen near the wheel well.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Don't know 4.7, but if you hold the accelerator pedal down when you crank to start. It will be in flood correct mode and have the injectors cut off and they generally will fire up if there is a flooding problem.

For some reason it is flooding out sometimes? I'd bring it by that trusted mechanic and ask him to look at it.

What exactly do you mean by flooding out? I've spoken with mechanic, plan to *** it by the shop for a fuel pressure test..

For one reason or another, the engine is getting too much fuel. So much that it doesn't want to start because the spark plugs are soaked with gasoline. By putting the accelerator to the floor, it shuts the injectors off, there by letting the engine start.

Ok.. So are you thinking a leaky injector? Is this something I can easily diagnose and pin for the cause of the issue and fix myself? Do not know much about it..

Also, is putting the accelerator to the floor and then starting the truck after it fails to start, using the extra gas that has flooded in to start the truck? As in if the injectors were not the issue, the truck would not start regardless of if the accelerator was pinned to the floor?

Btw, I don't smell gas at all. Have read some people complain about smelling gas..

Holding the pedal to the floor while cranking to start cuts off the injectors. If the engine starts then it is likely flooding. It is only a place to start diagnosing the problem. Good luck...

If this is the issue, will it be bad to continue running the truck like this until I can get it fixed, will it screw anything else up?

Btw, just went out and started it three times in a row. Drove it this morning for 15 minutes then it sat for 4-5 hours. No problems starting it at all so far today.

What you might want to do is find a shop with a "flight recorder" that you leave plugged into the computer for a few days then have them analyze the data and see what it shows.
