Hi fella's

I just finished installing door speakers on my 14' (6spkr). Would appreciate any advice, I am baffled as to what has happened to my front channels low end freq response. I'll try to explain this in the plainest way possible.

Order of Operations:
  1. Installed new front passenger door speaker (Pioneer TS-G690) with metra harness from Crutchfield.
  2. Turn on the radio to test new speaker before putting the door back together.
  3. Instantly notice new speaker has zero bass.
  4. Install OEM speaker back, also has zero bass.
  5. While playing music, pan between each corner. Confirm front right has NO bass. All other doors still producing reasonable bass.
  6. Decide front right channel could have an issue (junkyard RA2 radio recently installed).
  7. Proceed to install all of the Pioneer TS-G690 into the remaining doors.
  8. Test finished product. What do you know, the driver's side has NO bass response now.
  9. Very confused. It seems after unplugging OEM speakers the low freq has disappeared from both front channels. PLugging OEM speaker back in does not seem to fix problem. Overall system sounds okay, no distortion etc.....but wth?

Everything is back together for tonight, but damn I'm perplexed. Thanks for reading thru - hope I can get to the bottom of this. Should have left door speakers stock, it didn't sound that bad.
:worthy::wtf:

Probably try to disconnect the battery and replace the stock speakers before reconnect ing to see if there is something with the radio that needs to be reset.

Thanks Steve. You could be on to something.

Today the front sounds alright. The system actually is considerably better than stock, so I feel worth the $100 to upgrade all the speakers. Perhaps the radio had to get some power/key cycles to normalize? I still would love to know why the bass was attenuated, but as long as it sounds good now I'll take it. Maybe this will help someone who has a similar experience.

My setup:

Dash:
Kicker 44KSC3504 3.5's- I used 2.5ohm limiting resistors, it's okay, but a little bright - got 4ohms on the way. I also plan to install a 33uf cap for a high pass.

Front & Rear Doors:
Pioneer TS-G690 6x9's - Couldn't find the common Pioneers others referenced, so these went in. Very similar to the OEM speaker in weight and magnet size, but they do play louder, and I am a fan of how they sound. Fitment couldn't have been better, just like stock. I would say worth the $$. I am a slight audiophile, so I can be a bit picky.

Regards,

Walker
