So, I have a ‘21 Classic quad cab I bought new in November of ‘21. It has the base radio, am/fm/BT, no satellite, nav or anything else.

The other day while waxing the roof, I realized it has the “shark fin” type antenna.

I’m not sure why I never realized it had both a whip and this before, but I was wondering if it’s just standard, because I don’t know what other purpose it serves…I figured they put it on all of them just in case of a radio upgrade?

It's my understanding all of the classics had all of the optional wiring pre-installed, minus the tradesman specific chassis.

Also, double check your sources screen on your radio to make sure you don't have an XM option. I think I had to scroll down our down arrow on the screen to find it.

Either way, if it's not plugged into the current head unit, it's taped up behind the head unit to be used if/when you do a headunit upgrade.

I think SocialRam got it right. Does your radio have Sirius capability?

My 2012 also has the fin, even though the older style radio like mine has isn't NAV capable. But the radio is Sirius-ready.

No, no Sirius option. It’s very plain Jane. I was just wondering while waxing the roof one day. Perhaps I’ll upgrade to a Sirius enabled version of the head unit.

I wonder if the dolphin fin is required in Tx. In case your truck gets caught in one of those coastal floods, there'll still be something sticking up above the roof?

If you hear of any good Sirius deals, please pass along... I've been considering re-signing up.

I didn't know there even was a *non* Sirius radio option available anymore.

2012 radio option with the 8.4 A radio did not have Navigation,
But you could add Navigation, just by activating it & paying a ONE Time Fee

In 2012 They also had a 8.4 AN radio that came with Navigation

.............................................................................

Newer Rams, like the 2021 year model, used the Shark Fin for Cell Phone & for GPS Tracking.
The Police, with a warrant, can locate a vehicle using that function.

The truck might very well be wired for Sirius XM, but possibly the radio itself is not ?
