2017 RAM 1500 Sport. I replaced the OEM non-Apple CarPlay OEM radio with a 68461699AC Apple Carplay-enabled radio a few years back thanks to the awesome help of @Mpgrimm2

When I did so, my backup cam displays about 25-50% darker than it used to. Backing up into a shadow is purely a gamble now.

Is my solution to just upgrade to a newer OEM camera or is there another hack or to adjust the display/camera settings that I can’t find in the radio’s menu?

Open to an aftermarket camera if it fits like OEM and works better.

Thanks in advance - I searched but did not see this addressed elsewhere, apologies if I missed it.

I don't believe there are any OEM or aftermarket options to make this better. I "think" the issue is entirely internal to the radio software and how it handles contrast (which is poorly).

There may have been a firmware update to improve this, but I can say even on the latest firmware shadow/contrast performance is low.

I wonder if you can upgrade the back up lights?

I know when I put my truck in reverse there are zero shadows behind it

That does help, the OEM backup housings don't throw much light. The aftermarket ones I have are better, put I also added LED pods under the bumper.

I got a rough country bumper on mine and it came with some pods mounted right in it, not adjustable but definitely bright

Switch to the newer PN camera. See...

AllMoparParts UAx vs RAx Camera PNs (Here)... newer PN works with All.
