So my dad recently bought a second vehicle and is leaving his 09 Laramie at the lake full time to tow the boats. So before he takes it down there, I swapped the OEM basic radio from my 2011 for his OEM touchscreen/nav radio. He never upgraded the software or maps even once since he’s owned the truck so the software and maps are 10yrs old now. So this is where my questions begin.
-2009 touchscreen/nav radio that has never been updated
1. Are there any 3rd party software that would be a better option than going through 10yrs of software updates? And if not are the updates worth the trouble?
2. Is there anyone that has added Bluetooth to these older radios?
Any help is appreciated!

You need to be more specific on the radio. Is it a 430N or 730N? 730 has BT, 430 is separate. Best to search old forum entries to see what is required. As far as software you can try to input the VIN on the Uconnect website to see what is available. I would leave it as is though.

It is the 430N so no factory Bluetooth. I’ve been using a Bluetooth transmitter that plugs into the cigarette lighter and you turn the radio to a blank channel but I would prefer something more direct and less wires. If there are any dongles or modules people are using that they recommend would be nice. And it’s $150 to update the maps from the uconnect website.

Did I read correctly that the radio is out of an '09? If so, it's not a 430n, they didn't come out till '11. Look on the lower right corner, there should be three letters, if it's an '09 nav radio, the letters should be RER. the 430n is RHB

Yes I have gone from the base RES radio to both the RBZ (touchscreen non nav) and the RHB (touchscreen nav) just make sure the radio is a HIGE SPEED canbus radio as LOW SPEED ones will NOT work.
