It's an AEV Ram, and what's done is nothing. It's an overpriced spacer lift, marketed under some "maintaining factory ride" nonsense. They charge $3K for a spacer kit btw.

The bumper is actual quality, though; It's very nice. I think perhaps one of the best-designed bumpers out there.

But they don't change gears on them; you have to pay extra for the skid plate, extra for diff protection. You just get, bumper, decals, snorkel, wheels and lift kit. As stated, no lockers either.

They like posting pictures of their trucks on social media looking like they do offroad stuff. How capable they are.... I dunno, but 40's and 37's will roll over a lot. But I doubt they have much in terms of flex.

Don't get me wrong, the AEV Ram Prospector is awesome looking, but is it worth the price tag they attach to them? I don't think so.

Better off just buying the parts you want from them.

TIL that's an overpriced pack of ********. I've never heard of AEV before. One would think if you had the nuts to put some of that gear on it and advertise it as capable, you'd have the intelligence to back the claim up. Apparently not. Offroading looks like an ugly expensive hobby and thankfully I haven't caught that bug LOL!

Saw this at the dealer when I was getting my oil change today. Not a bad looking off road package. Too bad it didn't come with lockers and is too high for my gooseneck trailers.

It's wasn't anyone's truck. It was sitting on the dealer lot which was probably due to the $75k sticker for a Tradesman. I know what AEV is though. I saw their Jeep conversion at SEMA a few years back. Most of their stuff on the trucks is just cosmetics to make the truck look like an off road posser just like most trucks with a lift. As I said earlier, they didn't even put lockers in it which would be one of the first things I would do to make a truck more capable off road than a lift that is just for looks. Although I can't have something like that, my towing and hauling needs will not allow it. I wanted a Power Wagon so bad when I bought my truck, but it has too low of ratings for my needs and wants as well. However, that is what I got a Jeep for.

AEV's bread and butter is the Jeep Wrangler. They do not discount or pass discounts on to their distributors so everything is always full price with them. If you want an overpriced "look", then they are your cup of tea.

Not sure what you're saying in your post Danno. Why post a 4 year old off-road review article of dealer optioned trucks to compare them to current aftermarket gear or current PW's. The equipment & technology has been improved in all vehicles since 2012.

Watching BoldAdventure's videos I think prove the PW's capabilities are no joke.

And articles aren't gospel. For example I had a 2011 Pro-4X Frontier CC and that little mule would go anywhere I wanted it to go. I never took it to Moab or anything, but it was plenty capable. Ground clearance wasn't the highest, but it had decent approach/departure angles and the locker and hill descent control were pretty darn good for an OEM application. Wasn't a Jeep, but Jeeps can't tow or haul much either.

If I didn't care about my GVWR & payload I'd have looked at the PW for sure. I'm sure for enough money I could make my Bighorn into a PW, but that's not my goal. Like Smurfs said offroading is an expensive hobby.

He's a troll, don't feed him. Reloaderguy and myself have called him out and he won't comment, just moves onto the next thing to nit pick and pretend like he knows WTF he's talking about. Which clearly he doesn't.

Let me quote some ****** article that doesn't go into any details of scoring, and is just click bait garbage for cars.com from 2012. Not even a legitimate automotive journalist site.

Stop copy pasting. We already heard all your reasons why you hate the PW. Move along troll.

The AEV bumper is a nice piece and I definitely want one. They sure are proud of it though. I think it starts at $2,200 and properly configured for the PW with options it's around $2,500.

On the wish list it goes!

can I ask why they may have done it in a multi piece design? seems much easier to do a one piece bolt on like all the others. it defiantly is one of the nicest looking ones though.

Well. OP back to chime in...

I appreciate all the comments guys. At this point I am highly considering a 2017 PW (when they come out) if I can get one for a decent price. Likely tradesman trim as I am not a big fan of graphics, badging etc. I think I mentioned that previously.

The only hitch... I have been looking at Dennis Dillon's website over the past several months. I can get a SLT Big horn with 4:10's, and a bunch of options for less than $40,000.00

New 2016 Ram 2500 SLT BIG HORN!!! For Sale in Caldwell Near Boise, Nampa, ID | Vin:3C6UR5DJ8GG277631

Makes me really think about what I am going to spend my money on.

BUT... knowing myself, I know I would probably be happier with the PW. The PW is the truck I think about the most and compare everything else to. I really don't care about heated seats, heated steering wheel, 8.4 display etc. My current truck has a Vinyl floor and crank windows. I am buying a truck, not a luxury vehicle.

Danno... I could care less if I cant pull 20k up the IKE. Not trying to be confrontational but I have read A LOT on this forum and your negativity towards RAM is plastered all over this message board. It is amazing the Mods let you stick around.

PWR-WGN, Boldadventure, Reloader guy, U&A, others..... Thanks for all the helpful info, and advice. I appreciate it. I am anxious to see the 2017 PW tradesman. Cant find photos of the 2017 with the Tradesman trim.

Thank again.

Whatever you decide on I would highly suggest at least purchasing the backup camera/warning option. These things sit so high now it's very hard to judge distances (or see anything) directly behind you.

Not to add fuel to your purchasing debate but Nathan @ TFLT called the Power Wagon the "The best off-road vehicle you can possibly get" in their latest YouTube review.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0khNHWBaWw

My friend has a Rebel and would agree that it's much more capable off-road then the sum of its parts would suggest.

Buy what makes you happy. I still don't understand the guys on this forum who bought something because the "price was right" but they hate the color or hate something else about it.

I really don't understand how you end up with a color you don't like.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think the new 2017's are going to have their own trim's, TFL has a video interview from the autoshow when they introduced the new Power Wagon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtgUgpvzS-E

It sounds like now they are just coming in three trims, the tradesmen, a regular and premium, no more Laramie or SLT.

It also sounds like premium will just be the Laramie interior appointments, perhaps no more chrome on the Power Wagons. I'd be tempted to trade up myself. But... I got mine for just at 40 so... :)

You'll hear this around the 4:30 mark.

if that is their only reason then its a crappy one.

What did you expect? AEV caters to consumers that are more interested in non performance related product attributes.
