I did my first oil change at 7900 miles prior to road trip. Over the last 2-3 days have had to do city driving as well as idle the engine to run the AC to keep precious cargo, the grandkids cool during cat naps. It's like 15-20 minutes max at a time. I got the dash warning the oil was used up 95% at 9100 miles. That's only 1200 or so miles. I do very little stop & go and up to 55-65 within 5 minutes of leaving the house. I start the truck and moving in 30 sec. I realize these ED are choked w/emissions are not supposed to idle them like I can with my Cummins. Can the oil be used up that fast? I'm still waiting to have the recall done, what's the chance the two are related? I'm going to start taking oil samples & send in for analysis like I do with my vehicles.

The evic tells you nothing about the quality of your oil, if you are concerned get a uoa. There is nothing you could do to s stock new truck to make the oil go bad in 2k miles, unless something was wrong with the truck. Evic uses an algorithm to tell you oil life, not actually probing the oil. TBN is the only thing that should concern you if you run 5w20, because 5w20 is a very very stable oil due to low vii's. So there wont be any viscosity shear down happening. Just look on the stick, is it anywhere near black?

Never mind I now see you have an ecodiesel, my bad. But still, no way man. Something might be wrong, the oil is fine, but maybe something is clogged somewhere, dunno man. Diesels can have black oil at 1200 miles, but the oil will still be good. Generally speaking oil in diesels always turns black early, but you can drive on that oil farther then any gas truck.
