I recently did an oil change and replaced the oil filter on my 96 Ram 1500 with the 5.9 v8 motor. I've only driven it a few times since and decided I should check my fluid level. Now I am unable to reinsert the dipstick. It comes to a complete stop at about the place where the tube meets the motor. The tube appears to be unmoved and is mounted securely no wiggle or movement at all. The stick has always kind of had a little grab at that spot but with a slight twist it would go the rest of the way in. Not any more. I've twisted and shoved and tried forcing it down and it won't go. Is there something that could have come loose inside that has gotten wedged in there. My motor sounds the same. I know I need to replace the sending unit as it is giving me inconsistent pressure reading and is leaking oil. Is it possible a piece of that has broken off?
