So I need help

I'm trying to figure out why my 2012 only fits oil filters for 2013+

Couple thoughts ran through my head
Maybe previous owner did an engine swap with a 13+

Maybe p/o swapped adapters

Maybe I have a 2012.5... (after this idea I checked build date. It's 12/11.)

I know it seems trivial but I keep thinking if the regular filter won't fit then what else won't fit. I may be diving to deep into this but it's eating at me.

Anyone know of any changes with 2012 1500 5.7 sports? Anything special happen when my truck was produced?
Spent last 2 days researching but came up empty

There may have been some minor updates that occurred mid-year. I have not seen anything specific to those updates published publicly.

An engine swap might have been done but with that new of a truck I suspect it may have been a dealer job.

Have you run the VIN through a RAM dealer's parts or service department to see what dealer services, updates or recalls have been performed?

i bought a car fax. im the 4th owner.
1st owner kept up with maint
2nd and 3rd never brought it to a shop as far as the report is aware of.

truck was also auctioned off from 2nd and 3rd.

all recalls are done except clock spring issue.

got a better look at "adapter" and its a solid piece with the block so that wasent altered at all.

build date was Dec 2011 so i dont think i should have any mid year last min updates.

real head scratcher

VIN: 1C6RD7HT3CS192629

im at a road block if anyone else cares to try

also there is a sticker on the D/S valve cover with

1st row: TNXE6342111135

2nd row: P53022755MB

not sure if they mean anything. some people say its an engine identification number others say other things and i cant find a decoder for mopar later then the 1980s

maybe my wife is feeding me crack in my sleep or im going nuts.
the OEM mopar filter vehicle fitment fits 2012-2013
every single after market is 2012 and earlier or 2013 and later.
but only the 2013 and laters fit.

think im just going step away from this. blame the plant for putting on wrong filter plate. ill worry if other more major parts dont fit down the road

As far as I heard, even the 2011 filters will fit on 2013+, they went with smaller filters due to electric steering but seen some on here buy the larger filters, just easier to get out without a mess if you use smaller ones. I didn't know anything about fitting issues other than height of filter.

Yup, 2009+ filters will fit all 2009+ Rams. The smaller filters, for 2013+, fit easier on 2013+ Rams, but they technically all fit.

However, the specs are slightly different on the smaller filters (pressures and all that). After trying several "full size" filters designed for 2009-2012 trucks, I am sticking with the smaller guys. Engine seems to run with less ticking compared to the larger filters (granted, I do use high quality filters, such as Wix XP).

My first car was a 67' Camaro with a small block 327. In that era, Chevrolet had several different oil filters that fit. Everything from a canister, long and short filters. They all worked but if you had headers and someone put a long filter on it, you couldn't get it out. You had to drive a screwdriver in the side of it to unscrew it.
