I know that this subject has been hashed out for ever but.. and I am not seeking to open a major thread here but with the demise of FRAM our choices are becoming quite limited.
I am a maintenance nut, I change my engine oils before 5000 miles, I use factory recommended oils with recommended viscosity ratings. We have 6 of these HEMI's currently. ( one virgin with 180K One with 150K never an engine problem)
Now to the MEAT. I have used FRAM filters on all of our cars and trucks for many years, always the upgraded ones. Last couple of years the FV2 for the HEMI's both 5.7 and 6.4. Now the Fram filters are unavailable it seems anyplace. (Bankruptcy seems to be the cause). I have checked high and low,, nun, nada, notthn no place.
I have tried looking at other brands but there doesn't seem to be anything out there that compares with capacity and quality of the actual filter material for synthetic motor oils. The MOPAR MO399 is a joke, The Mobil1 M1-113 is the same size and construction of the MOPAR filter..

NOW Has anyone out there found a quality filter with synthetic specific filtration and with sufficient capacity to take care of our beloved HEMI's ???

I got lucky and grabbed a couple clearance Frams from Advanced so I'm good on the Hemi for a bit, but I did need to find an oil filter for my other car this weekend. Did a quick search after I realized Fram was OOS everywhere. My quick search indicated WIX XP was a decent option. Some people recommended Microguard select and Carquest extended which are apparently Premium Guard brand. I dont know anything about Premium Guard, and I thought WIX made all the Microguard filters, so count me out of the loop I guess. I snagged a WIX XP as Oreilly had a good bundle price with some oil plus a store gift card rebate.

1st I heard of Fram being in trouble (I live under a rock at times) Well that isn't good. I still have a couple of filters but I guess if they don't get things figured out I'll be like you looking for a new filter brand.

I use NAPA Gold filters. Not making a recommendation, it's more of a convenience for me. But since I change oil every 5k miles I'm not as worried about using a filter with synthetic media.

If you want a good synthetic media filter you might check out Amsoil filters.

I used to use Napa gold but I found out they are no longer the same as wix filters. I ended up switching to wix xp filters

That's correct, now they're mostly all produced by Premium Guard, Inc. (PGI). I'm okay with that. But I appreciate your pointing that out for other people who might not know that.

Wix XP are not terrible, but they actually filter worse than the regular Wix units.

I've been using the Ford Racing filter for my wife's 2018 Grand Cherokee (5.7), and used them on our 2019 Challenger Scat Pack (now sold) and 2023 TRX (now sold). Lots of fakes out there (avoid Amazon and eBay), but the genuine units from a good site (Summit Racing, for example) are great. Lots of filtering, lots of flow, stronger construction. They are expensive but worth it.

Premium Guard units are actually decent, they filter better than Wix XP. Their build quality, last I checked, was very good if you get units made in Vietnam or another non-China location. I've ran these in a pinch under a few names.

I know it may not be the same filters you are looking at exactly, but over on a certain TRX forum, there is a huge thread with almost 50 (or maybe its over now, they keep adding) different filters of many brands cut open, dissected, and their specs (filter ability, flow, etc.) analyzed. Can give you a good idea on the best brands of filters.

There is know known top shelf spun glass anymore, carquest may have one but they havebt been in top choices previously. So the next generation is poly, and sadly there is one known one. See oil filter thread in 4 gen for all the bad news. Puro boss is it, I'd buy a case and store them if you like good filtration. Wix XP is now a blend like m1, anyway you slice it they are paper. So the poly might not be quite as spun glass, but it also might be. When fram ultra or endurance comes back we will have to check and make sure they are still spun glass.

Always use the largest filter you can, if you have a hemi put 2010 in the fitament chart for larger option. The smaller filters aren't even recommended by the people who build them no kidding. In Blackstone thread we "might" have proof the smaller filters causing extra wear. not for sure yet, but point being if you get the larger filter the things you do not have to worry about are many., puro boss pbl24651 is the larger size for hemi, see oil filter thread more info, not 100 if it fits the 6.4, ask guys in filter thread if you have a 6.4. If I had the 6.4 I'd get a dual filter setup.

Personally I like Royal Purple 10-48 oil filters but they are sold out in Canada,it appears.I like Wix as as alternative.I have been thinking on using a magnetic drain plug and or a magnet on the filter. What are you using, anybody,or thoughts about these?

How about the Amsoil EaO11 filter?
Amsoil filters are one of the best out there IMHO. The price is why I don't use them. They're designed for 25k miles (when used with their oil of course) or one year. We drive our 2020 Limited maybe 5k miles per year, so it's kind of a waste of money to use a $24 filter. I also don't find an Amsoil filter made for our truck. When I punch in the year, model, and engine into the website it wants to sell me a Wix filter. How did you determine the EaO11 will fit?

I cross referenced it to the royal purple 20 820. Says it was a direct fit, direct cross over.

The Royal Purple 20-820 oil filter cross-references to the Amsoil EaO11 (Ea Oil Filter). Both are high-performance, synthetic media filters designed for similar applications, often used as larger, higher-capacity alternatives to the Royal Purple 10-48.

Key Cross-Reference Details

Amsoil EaO11Alternative Premium

Matches: Fram Ultra 2 (XG2) or Fram Endurance (FE2)Dimensions:

The 20-820 is a "larger" filter size commonly used to replace smaller OEM filters (like the 10-48) on Ram 1500 5.7L engines for increased filtration capacity.

As an aside, I absolutely hate amsoil. Bad harley experience. Overheated a 110, dropped a valve and cracked both engine cases on return trip from Daytona.

7500 replacement engine.

So, I'm not a fan, but I might try it once. If it's a decent filter

I've used the 20-820 a couple times. Ended up making a huge mess each time when I was removing them lol. There wasn't enough clearance to get the oil udder to work with them. Thanks for the info!
