The wife got the oil changed in her Durango R/T the other day and they used one of these. It uses the same filters as my truck.

Anyone know anything about them?

It says Made in Vietnam.

Remember………20k mile oil filters are less efficient. They have to be, or they’d load up too quickly. As an example, this is why WixXP are rock catchers.

After nearly 200 pages, there’s still debate about which filter to use for gas Ram trucks. Sort of amazing to me. For the money, Carquest Premium, MicroGard Select, STP XL/EX, or any XL/EX PGI from RockAuto can’t be beaten. Do you really need a bigger can or more media for a 7500 mile OCI? Why? How much more efficient are you going to get than 99% at 20 microns? Without Stratopore media? This question is being overthought.

That analogy doesnt hold.

An efficient filter can be designed with enough media area for the targeted service interval.

I am not making an analogous comparison.

I understand the point you’re trying to make, but ask yourself this: if a filter with an efficiency of 20% @ 99 microns can be made to last 20k miles, why haven’t manufacturers done so? Well, my guess is it would be too large, or it would be too expensive. Any undergraduate in mechanical engineering could design a filtration system that would consume the entire bed of the truck and filter down to probably 5 microns at 100%. This is, obviously, impractical.

Given the filters available to us, and given that no one is probably going more than 10k miles on an OCI (most probably not beyond 6-7k), this discussion, while interesting and fun, is not really solving anything. That was my only point.

And isn't it also possible to manufacture a filter with tight enough media that we would begin to filter out additives? While some beneficial chemicals might blend in with the oil, some might also simply remain in suspension.
I have no idea how small or large some of those additives might be.

I also raised this same point earlier. Say 100% down to 5 microns, and the filter might be the size of a small boat in order to get any flow through it.
Personally I've been looking out for, and trying to buy the best filtration I can get, while using the larger "oversize" filter for ideal flow.
