To pre fill or not to pre fill..

Since his pre stated hypothisis is it doesn't matter, one might guess how this turned out. However, the science is interesting, he poses the results that most wear is not just at start up but all the way til operating temps. Yes, this dummy just said idle is good, lol. Well not exactly, but close.

"It takes 4 seconds (for the engine) to fill the oil filter, either big or small.) .....Very Doubtful

Getting to operating temperature is key he says - doubtful
A 0W-weight motor oil is designed for extreme cold. The "0W" (Winter) rating means it flows efficiently and guarantees safe engine cranking and pumpability at temperatures as low as \(-35^{\circ} \text{C}\) to \(-40^{\circ} \text{C}\) (\(-31^{\circ} \text{F}\) to \(-40^{\circ} \text{F}\))

Prefilling - you are putting the oil in the out flow - it goes back into the engine - Dude doesn't know the oil flows through the filter material. and some of the oil would be held by the back flow check.

I prefill on the 6.4l BUT not to full because some comes out when installing it horrizontily.
I put oil in rotate it horrizonitally, put more oil in until I see a littl at the bottom.

Why ... I can't hurt

I was cruising Amsoil Corporate website for some specialty lubes and dropped into the motorcycle section - all Harley V-Twin Oil Packs are labeled "out of stock".

These had 4 or 5 quarts of Amsoil SS 20W-50 V-Twin Motor Oil and an Amsoil Oil Filter. They still don't have a new oil filter source (Champion Labs was owned by the First Brands hucksters that went bankrupt).

I went out and bought PG Oil Filters directly instead. Well, @ Bezos World.

FYI

At lady from Amsoil told me they still deal with Donaldson and Wix for filters. Were they made by Champion/First as well? She knew about the filter world mess and said they were stocked.

All I know is what their legacy filter was, Champion Labs. Champion also made Royal Purple Oil Filters, which have also been discontinued.

Donaldson and Wix make their own filters.

Amsoil is not stocked. Or their sales website is not current. One of the two mutually-exclusive choices is accurate.

Wix no longer makes a spun glass filters, and they never made a top spun glass filter, they were rock catchers that is about it. Now with their new blended filters, I imagine it will be better then their old spun glass early in an interval, and if you think about that for a minute, it is pathetic imo. Wix missed a golden opportunity to run isht in the oil filter world! Why not just go thick loose like all the other top spun glass filters? Anyhow, it is what it is, car quest EP or puro boss, or bust. M1 will probably run the filter world, they certainly have an impressive oil line up to match, one would hope someday someone with balls will go back to spun glass as a top shelf filter.

Internet geniuses, this any good? Google says yes but I’m still too busy to jump down the rabbit hole… and I’ve still got a year and a bit of good filters left.

Why would the guy cut up a filter from a bankrupt company no longer in production?

We all knew what Fram did years back....cheapened Ultra and introduced Endurance for mo' money.

Have not heard a peep about PGI's purchase of Fram's trademarks - a challenger appeared after the deal, and nothing since.

  • Synthetic blend media provides 99.5% efficiency at 20 microns and 2X capacity vs. Standard filters
The above is for the 6.4l engin Carquest Premium Oil Filter $10

What is Fram's rating?

So were (are) the Fram Ultra Synthetic filters still a positive option or has info come out on them? I just stocked up on a batch of them while they were still on shelves.

Fram endurance were never sold in Canada. There were labeled as ultra syntetic. We never got the downgraded filters. Went down that rabbit hole years ago. Buy whatever you can find.
