I’m looking for some insight on an issue I’m having with my 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7. I have oil in the coolant system but no coolant in the oil pan. I had the head gaskets replaced along with the heads resurfaced. Mechanic checked the block and it was fine. Compression test was good. I had a MDS delete kit installed a couple of years ago with no issues. It worked for a bit and started leaking oil in the coolant system again. It doesn’t have oil cooler and yes the radiator was replaced. Any ideas?

Try and test for exhaust gas in coolant, it is more throughout then compression test in this case. It would detect even minute leak. 2010 doesn't have any of the rainbow jam in other Rams like shutter, thermal bypass, and other dooky filth put in there. So bottom line it could be but a couple things.
How much oil? Run RMI25, it will take any oil in system and trap it in Overflow where you can vac it out. Could be old oil.

Why is there no oil cooler? Don't you dare say because you took it out w/o an explanation.

Personally I have never heard of the fluid to fluid cooler leaking, but I guess it could if it were cracked.

Leak down test would be better than a compression test..... unless crack expanding under heat while engine running.

In a 2010 where does transmission fluid share parts with coolant lines? When they started the bypass a couple years later yes. But I have no info where a 2010 transmission lines share parts with coolant system. Since I have a 2010, it would be good to know, but I am a aware of it. He has replaced the radiator, so that shouldn't be it.

When your engine is cold and has sat for a day or so, crack the oil drain plug loose, but DO NOT remove it.
Get a small container below the drain plug and loosen the plug just enough that it starts to drip. Watch the drips. If there is water/coolant in the oil, you will see it very quickly.
You can watch the drips for 30 seconds or so.

I have a 2019, not sure if your 5.7 design is the same though. I had the same issue, but it was to the point I was getting oil/antifreeze mix spewing from the cooling system overflow. It ended up being the oil cooler. No antifreeze in the oil since the oil pressure was higher than the cooling system pressure. Oil cooler on mine is mounted right above the oil filter. It’s antifreeze cooled.

Wow heck of a first post that for participating. That is the first time heard of that. Usually this oil cooler is great for what it is, as coolant takes away temp fairly well. Did you dyi?

That oil cooler is a joke on the later hemi's Mike,and it has a horrible rep of leaking coolant into the oil,it also means you can't run a decent sized filter on the later trucks. But his 2010 won't have it,neither will your truck.

Luckily, it was covered under warranty. Changed heater core, radiator, and every hose in the cooling/heater system plus some A/C lines. Not sure how the A/C lines figured into the mix, but they changed them as part of the fix.

Had oil in the coolant on my '19, and it was a head gasket. Very small spot on the drivers side between oil passage and water passage. Gasket didn't fail, but Permatex(or whatever the factory used) failed. Like stated before, oil pressure is higher than water pressure, so no water in oil.
The oil cooler/filter adapter on the Ram 5.7L HEMI bridges the engine block and the oil filter. Its primary purpose is to route oil for cleaning while utilizing engine coolant to rapidly warm the oil to operating temperature or stabilize it during heavy loads, preventing extreme temperatures.
As to the oil filter size, I relocated it so a bigger filter will fit, and it is easier to get to.

I have had this issue on 2 hemis that had blown head gaskets I wasted so much money at machine shops the heads where re surfaced and gone over. Trucks both ran fine no coolant in oil you 100% need 2 new heads I was never able to figure out where the head cracked but it had to be internal where I could not see.
