In my experience with diesels, dont put anything in there that isnt factory or factory recomended. That being said, manufacturers aren't always the smartest of people. As far as diesels go, a higher performance oil pump will not cause any problem. What causes the problem is an oil pump that cant keep the pressure above the min. recommended level. Because there is no reason in the diesel world to replace an oil pump with anything but stock, we didn't. Unless it was a high mileage engine whose tolerances were getting up there, and the stock pump didnt have large enough pumping chambers to keep the pressure up. All those engines had 700K+ miles on them though, with thousands of hours of idle time. Putting a quality high flow pump in will not hurt anything, except your wallet. Unless you are messing with the oiling passages, there is no reason to change the pump type.

I know that, cummins owners make sure that everyone knows its a cummins. Not that I would do any different.

The only differences between gas and diesel are minor and completely irrelevant. There is only one difference worth noting between the two types, that is how the fuel is ignited. There are hundreds of differences, but they dont change operation.

Everything I said stands for both diesel and gas. There are so few things that dont apply to both, I give warning when talking about them, but we dont get a lot of cummins problems on here.

If all the clearances are correct, you probably don't need a high volume oil pump in a stock 360. If, on the other hand, you have low oil pressure, and that is why you're considering a new pump, why not just put in a higher pressure relief spring. Don't know the miles, but you could use the money you were going to spend on the oil pump, and roll in some fresh rod bearings, if you have the pan off, anyway.

Nothing wrong with putting one in. Don't know that you'll need it but hey I always like to over build my engines. If it was me I'd do it. In fact I did.. I think. Or maybe that was my 383. Can't recall lol
