Hi All,
I am watching the BringaTrailer auctions for diesels, and have to wonder?

93 Ram Cummins, and a 02 Quad Cab Cummins, both being auctioned. These trucks are likely going to cost a bomb to buy, in the $30k range. The 02 Ram is now bid to $25k, with 4 days to go.

Why not just buy a gasser, Hemi, more hp, more torque. Cheaper fuel.

Are the older Cummins still better than a newer Hemi?

I have never driven an older Cummins, run a 2018 myself.

Yes older Cummins are better then a Hemi every day of the week & 3 times on Saturday, don't think a Hemi makes more torque then a Cummins, they cost more due to the fact they have no smog BS and they can be built bad @ss. Oh as for cheap fuel right now in my area gas is $5.35 diesel $5.69...

Thanks for your input. Its a question I never thought to ask, and I should have, before I bought my 2018.
The 2018 is nice, lots of features, etc etc.. but, this DEF and Diesel Particulate filter BS is going to drive me crazy.
I still drive my 95 Ram 1500 every day, and try to save the 2018 for towing my RV. I plan on selling the 2018 once I stop towing the RV trailer.
I obviously should have bought a 2nd gen diesel and avoided all the "new and improved" diesel crap.

I had a 91 D250 with the Cummins. I got 24 mpg on a daily basis. I could get 25 on a trip. Started upon the first compression stroke. It was an awesome truck. If it didn’t rust out I’d still have it.

GT, man I was giving my girl a bad time yesterday when for the first time in a long while, gas was more than Diesel. Let’s see how long that lasts with the OPEC ****.

I was willing to invest in a new Ram diesel because the technology is going to stay around for a long time. We can grow biodiesel. This week I saw for the first time an article about converting diesel engines for the consumption of hydrogen in fuel cells. Diesels are investments for the long term. They keep on chugging and are much more suitable for innovation and adaptions later on.

The perceived "problems" with DEF and the diesel particulate filter are GREATLY exaggerated.
I would venture a guess that 99.9% of diesel owners have zero problems with them.

I dunno, here in Canada I saw a bunch of Duramax's all parked in GM dealers this spring. Have no idea why, but they were sitting there for at least 1 to 2 months. I'd be furious if that was my truck during RV season.

Just confirms my opinion on diesel; love to drive/tow with them, hate to own them.

Duramax's use Bosch CP4 HPCR fuel pumps too?

There’s problems with all trucks, and yup, the SCR trucks have their share.

Unlike Ford I thought they went to another brand due to the CP4 problems..

Are there other HPCR fuel pressure pumps? I'd only heard about BOSCH CP3 & CP. At work we hated Bosch - arrogant, expensive, slow service. We used Stanadyne until they elected not to develop a pump for EPA tier IV HPCR engines. What a bummer that was.
