Hey I’m new here. Thinking of trading my 2012 1500 in on a 2016 Power Wagon. I know the ride is not the same. Need something better for towing my tt 8800lbs. I know almost at the max. But not going to go to far. Never been off roading but think it’s something myself and family could get into. Any info you guys can give would be greatly appreciated

Welcome! Pretty much everything you need to know is already being discussed in this forum. Look through the threads and use SEARCH for anything specific you want to know. If you can't find it after that, there are lots of knowledgeable people on here who can help you out.

If you plan on using it more for towing and not much off roading you can look into any 2500 non PW model with the 6.4. If you get into offroading you can upgrade to thuren suspension components which will get you pretty close to PW offroad capability unless you plan on doing some serious offroading but from the sounds of it that might be a better fit. Ride quality is amazing with his kit on my truck rides just as nice as my 1500 did.

Welcome and good luck, I went from a 2014 1500 to a 2018 PW. It's a different beast. Think about the comment above from JoshR104 and check towing/ payload ratings for PW and non PW trucks. It seems the PW springs are more for articulation rather than loading. The 6.4 has more power than the 5.7 but it is a heaver truck too. Look around the website and do your research. When buying used, I use the carfax to try and determine the amount of abuse a vehicle has endured. Not everybody takes care of a truck like you do. STU

If you want to tow 9k lbs don't buy a power wagon. Get a regular 2500. Thats the mistake i made. Love my truck no doubt but a regular 2500 would have suited my needs better.

Ill be making that switch soon.

Unless you are a serious off roader i dont see the purpose of having the power wagon except for bragging rights around town.

This is coming from a guy with a 1956 and 2017 power wagon

Thanks for the replies. My problem here is that there isn’t many used 2500’s around and I found a Power wagon in my price range. I’ll only be towing once or twice a year. As I’m usually on a season site.

if you are going to tow once or twice a year then you will be ok. I would install airbags and make sure the trailer is loaded properly.
