open tailgate from inside bed

Wondering if there is latch made for opening the tailgate from inside the bed ?
I have a Cap on and custom built bed area in it, so for ease of getting out would like to be able to open the tailgate from the inside.

Also who makes the best locking tailgate latch ?
Seen the Bully model for $34 get good reviews

Would adding a tailgate assist shock work in your situation? while inside open the cap and reach over and open the tailgate. The shock will allow it slowly lower.

Inside is gonna be custom. Do you want a manual keyed lock or one that operates with the power locks?

Modding the access panel on the inside to add a simple lever that actuates the latch would be an easy task. A slot in the panel, A couple L brackets mounted on the inside back to back on either side of the slot to act as your hinge, a straight piece of flat steel with a hole drilled in it that attaches to the L brackets, and long enough to actuate the latch, maybe bent over on the inside of the bed.
