Greetings! Just bought a 2500 and love it. I had to buy a new 2.5 inch drop mount for my TT. Being a newbie and already have anxiety over safety when pulling I would like your opinion on if my trailer is level. I have one more drop left in my drop but feel like that will be too low. We head-out this weekend on our first trip with the new truck. Thank you for your time.

Looks slightly nose-high, but hard to tell. Does the hitch ball tilt back any? Looks like your tailgate might hit the jack, tilting the ball back a bit will lower it just a hair, and may give you enough clearance for the jack. It will put more tension on the trunion bars, if they're already really tight, it may not be an option.

I'd go with it. You can put a level on the floor just inside the trailer door to see how far off it is, None of your shots show the ground clearance for the rear trailer bumper, but from what I can see it's good enough to tow.

Agree with this. If your TT didn’t come
with a level indicator on the body buy a couple and stick them on the exterior somewhere

Thanks for y’all’s opinions. I tend to be overly cautious…and new to this. Just want to be on the safe side. Here is the level bubbled from my camper. Truck is as level as it gets in a HS parking. I feel like if I adjust more I’ll go too far the other way.

That's not bad. Looks like about 2-3" out so 1-1.5 drop would be spot on level. If the trailer was longer you'd want a bigger drop, but for what you have I see no issues.

Yeah - that's not too bad, I'd lean more towards being nose low as opposed to high, less susceptibility to sway, but only way to know for sure is to take it out and see how it behaves.

Just because it's level doesn't mean it's correct. The best way to set a WDH is by using a semi CAT scale. Have the truck and trailer fully loaded as if your headed out camping, weigh the truck and trailer. Then drop the trailer and weigh just the truck, that will give you all the numbers needed to calculate actual tongue weight percentage. You want to replace the weight lost of the front axle and the rear axle should weigh more that the front with about 10-12% tongue weight. It's dual axle trailers that you want as level as possible.

here is the best guide

#4 Drop Length Formula (for trailers that ride lower than your truck)

  1. Measure the distance from the bottom of your trailer’s coupler to the ground (be sure your trailer is loaded and sitting level with the ground while you measure).
  2. Subtract this number from the height of your hitch receiver (distance from the top of the inside of your truck’s hitch receiver to the ground).
  3. This is the required drop length of your ball mount.
You should be within a 1/2 if possible-also consider a Curt Rocker Ball to absorb shocks starting and stopping
crash68 is also 100% correct when talking about WDH, however you still need the right drop down ball mount for it all to be correct.

All great points everyone. I took it out for a ride today but I went from a Tundra to this 2500 so of course it pulled like a dream. I will take it to a scale and see where I need to go from there. I really appreciate y’all helping out a rookie Ram owner

So many think the truck and trailer need to be level to one another. Not true. You need some tongue weight on the truck for proper handling. On my 2500 if I adjust to level it is very tight and handles really bad. Back the tension on the WDH back. Get a little squat on the back of the truck and test drive. I really don't need a WDH but it helps with handling, going through sharp dips, etc. This is how my truck sits when loaded.IMG_20220123_163618013.jpg

My trailer is about where yours is, a slight bit nose high. But the measurements on the truck are within what they should be.
IF you can't open your tailgate, you may be able to rotate the jack head 90 degrees. I did that on mine. Easy 30 minute job.

If it were mine, I would drop it to the next hole. I like to run level and if I can't, I will go lower rather than higher. You are higher, which could be a sway problem.

As others have said, try it, if no sway problems you'll be ok, But if you have a sway problem you'll know why.

First time I've seen a hitch with the bars on top. Not knowing about that system, my comments could be in error.

Good catch I didn't even see that. I don't think his hitch is setup correctly at all, those bars need to be inverted.

No it is not loaded with clothes or grocery. I have a recurve R3 WDH it top loaded. Thanks again for everyone’s opinion. I am taking to a hitching post to look at it tomorrow. Most likely just drop it one more hole.

So after googling that WDH apparently you do have the bars setup correctly, I stand corrected.
