So while helping a buddy do some tree trimming yesterday and hauling brush off, I had my utility trailer hooked up to load the brush on. I had the tailgate down as I had my cooler and saws sitting on the tailgate. After driving around the building to unload the brush, I happened to look down and noticed this. Apparently while turning/going over bumps and hills to dump the brush, the trailer jack smacked into the cap of the tailgate... I'm taking it to the body shop in the morning to see how much it would be to fix. Think they might could pop the dents and repaint it? Or you think I'll have to have a whole new tailgate? Damn it! :(

Looks somewhat worse than mine and the body shop wanted almost $700. Ugh

My step-father banged up his hooking up to his 5th wheel and they replaced the tailgate. I think it was around $1200 for the tailgate with paint

I have a $500 deductible on my insurance, so if it’s $500-$700 or so I may just bite the bullet and pay it out-of-pocket instead of filing a claim. That sucks though!

Lovely :/ if it ends up being that much I’m definitely turning it in on insurance. I wonder if they would have to keep the truck, or if they’d just pop off the tailgate and let me drive it until the new one came in?

Doubt they would need to keep the truck

Have you had the recall done? My dealer told me if the tailgate falls down they will pay for any damage that happens. Just say it fell on it's own while towing.

Update: $950 later and they were able to fix it. They did a damn good job! Couldn't even tell anything had happened. The only thing that bugs me about it is they put the badges in the wrong spots  they should be about half way up the tailgate. Wondering if I should go back and make them fix it, or just live with it? I don't think it looks bad, it just bugs me because I know it's not right lol.

Lol the work does look good! But that’s funny the misplaced the badges.

I like the badges up where they come from the factory but I’m glad you got it all repaired.

The badges look better low IMHO. I think they moved there after 2014.

Badges look better down low on the tailgate...keep it the way it is and you will have a unique truck.
