I have a 2006 Ram 3500 5.9L dually and will be towing a 14.5k 5er.

Is it necessary to tow a large RV with the OD engaged?

I would love to hear how you guys use OD when towing. Thanks.

I never tow with any of our trucks with OD engaged. I set with OD off or set in Tow Mode. You do not want the OD to engage while towing. Particularly pulling grades. This will cause your transmission to go in and out gear to often, generating heat and premature failure.

Thanks. I see that the OD is on the end of the shifter, but I'm not sure where the tow/haul mode is. I'll have to do some research.

When you turn off the OD you are in tow/haul mode in that truck.

I only use OD when I am on very flat ground and not fighting a wind. Otherwise it's Tow/Haul or OD OFF all the way.
