I was the same with the seatbelt, didn’t want be “trapped” by it in an accident/fire, was my reasoning.
A while back the county or state, don’t recall, started enforcing the seatbelt law so I started wearing mine.
I realize being trapped by belt has very little chance of happening versus the proven benefits of using it, I do keep some to cut the belt on my key.
Not a bad idea. I keep a hammer in my truck on the slight chance I need to smash a window.

I have a couple of those that I used to use with my Tundra to defeat the passenger-side seatbelt alarm.

When travelling to local dive sites with a cooler in the passenger seat, the truck would register the cooler's weight and sound the seatbelt dinger.

The seatbelt nannies in my Ram have been permanently muzzled.
And using a seatbelt extender on the driver's seat prevents the EVIC from being monopolized and performing a light show.

There's a YouTube video showing how to quiet the seatbelt nannies, but that fix alone leaves the EVIC flashing for a minute or two whenever a seatbelt is not connected. When I leave my house, I want to review various items immediately upon departure.
