P0601 code question

I have an 01 ram 1500 5.2 manual tranny, p0601 code showed up no symptoms except a CEL, my buddy has a 98 5.2 manual truck he just took offrom the road if I swap PCMs with him will it be okay or do I have to have a pcm burned to my vind, mileage etc

Tried tossing in a pcm from a friend's 1998 1500 5.2 into my 01 1500 5.2 and truck ran great for 5 minutes then flooded itself out. From what I've seen the years are too far apart and somewhere the wires are just different enough that the swap doesn't work.
