I checked the fluid level and color. Both are good. No burnt smell. I plan to check the electrical connections for something obvious. That was the cause with my dads 2gen. Everything feels normal. I was cruising 45 mph when it came up. Not towing. Normal conditions.
I plan to clear the code and see if it returns.
No idea on the last service. But the fluid looks good. I have plans to do it soon so maybe sooner than later.

is it shifting into 3rd and OD?

I just went through that, changed the fluid and filter, and that worked for me I believe it was a clogged filter.

When I ran the transmission shop, we had alot of Dodge and Chrysler vehicles come in . On 80% of them it was a simple fix that did not require replacement. Find an honest shop and have them diagnose it. You cannot go by the Pcode alone and they have lap tops they utilize while driving the vehicle and can perform all sorts of diagnostic testing while driving it. They can engage the torque converter and test speed sensors, check fluid pressure and pressure of shifts. You name it. That would be what I would be doing. I can tell you this, the more you drive this way, you can be doing internal damage, if it is in fact not already present.

I agree with smithy...a trip to a reputable trans shop might be your best bet.

how much will a reputable shop charge me for this service? I'm strapped this month.

I could probably afford a fluid and filter change if I "diy". but the thing with that has been no time. after this weekend, I will have some time.

I had the same code 9-29 as I stated it was TCC and O/d wording. it went off on its own a few weeks ago.
no symptoms the first time.
this weekend I have been making a half dozen trips moving a household of crap.
there was a slight abnormal shift point once last night while pulling from a light. the CEL came on the next time I started the truck.

I know the shop that I ran, we did not charge for it, unless it took over an hour of diagnostic time. If over that, then we charged our regular hourly rate. Most of the time, with the right Diagnostician, it was wrapped up and they knew the problem.

P1740 fix

Hey guys, so I may have gotten lucky with mine, a few times now. So this is the 2nd time this has happened to me: When I am driving down the period after an extended period of time my truck will pop a 1740 and drop out of OD on me. Had a tranny expert friend take a look the first time (2009) and it turned out it was a "speed sensor." Me, being a relatively experienced tech, (10K hours plus in a shop) thought he was screwing with me. Turns out he wasn't. I replaced it with the fluid and she worked like a dream. Happened again, couldn't get my old girl through emissions for 5 years, but didn't think it could possibly be that sensor again. Replaced it, without changing the fluid, and flew through emissions like she was fresh off the line. Just got the code again tonight....time to change the fluid. Something to look for, at least with mine, is that it was covered in metal shavings and theres no way that it could have gotten whatever reading it wanted to off it it. I would suggest there. Its on the drivers side, at 10 o'clock, towards the rear, if youre looking at it from the rear axle. Good luck guys, hopes this clears up a lot of sorrows and works for ya'll

Thx man! With that kind of shop experience you should stick around :roflsquared:

Myself and at least 2 others have dealt with this damn code as well. For me, my trans runs alright and now that it's warming up outside it's working better than it did 3-4 months ago. Kinda ****** me off cuz i have a built PATC sitting my parents garage waiting to go in and this hunk is shifting fine again. I've had that code nonstop since i got the truck 5 years ago. It's possible it's one of the 02 sensors or is directly tq converter related as the trans sensors are all new
