Ive got a P2138 throttle position sensor code on a 2013 5.7 hemi. Originally started the truck and had a high idle at about 1500 rpm. Would press the break peddle to shift into gear and the engine would idle down to normal. Upon shifting into gear the transmission instantly started off in 4th gear, also had delayed throttle response. After turning the truck off I tried again the next day and got a crank but no start. So now the truck just sits. The throttle position sensor must be replaced with a whole new throttle body but after some research it seems it could also be the accelerator position sensor. Both are a bit spendy so I'm hoping someone might be able to give me some insight before I try 1 or the other.

First, visibly inspect the wiring and connectors for the relevant sensors and actuators. Sometimes the issue involved a wayward squirrel or mouse and is obvious.

Then, If you have AlfaOBD or a scan tool, monitor the live data from the associated sensors while trying to start the truck. See which, if any, are giving bad data, or no data.

If you don't have AlfaOBD, or a scan tool, don't want to buy them, and still want to try and fix this yourself, then break out the credit card and start firing the parts cannon. Cross your fingers, start with the cheapest part and work your way up.

I fought that issue on my 14 ,replaced the pedal assembly/throttle body and still didn't fix it,finally had a tech buddy hook up the dealers scan tool after hours and we took it for a ride, and if you hit a decent bump,it would loose the 5volt referance signal, and go into instant limp mode.Turned out i had a bad pin in the throttle body connector,a $50 repair harness from the dealer, soldered in,and i never had another issue after that.So follow Kens advice and start looking the wiring/connector over very close for damage.I figure i probably had damaged the pin when i'd had the throttle body off,as it had been on and off alot by then,as i was always swapping TB's on the truck looking for more speed ;)
