Paints, Mediums, Thinners

Hey guys, I'm looking to do a few DIY projects to my friends car that involves paint. I am new to painting cars, however I learn fast, and already have the basic ideas of techniques to go about what I need to do. the only thing is I don't know much about the paints themselves, urethane, acrylic, waterbased, enamels etc... I am looking for anyone here on the site that is or knows people who are involved in autobody repair and painting, and custom graphics painting.
