Hey everyone first timer here not too sure how to navigate this site that well.
My question: My 1996 ram 2500 Cummins doesn’t communicate with scan tools to diagnose anything. I even took it to a mechanic. I’d assume right off the bat that it’s my PCM or a wiring issue.
I just installed a very expensive rebuilt transmission and I guess you could say I’m just in limp mode ..either 2nd or 3rd..
other symptoms:
1. Tachometer doesn’t work and some other dash lights.
2. AC clutch doesn’t engage.
3. Was having issues with my cruise control before I ever replaced the transmission. (Drove it for over a year with no reverse)
I replaced the crankshaft position sensor already and checked all my fuses except the relays because I’m not sure how to test those yet. I did swap some of the relays and nothing changed. I also disconnected the batteries for a couple days.
Other info: reverse works which it didn’t before I replaced the transmission.
Any help would be appreciated it’s been over a year and a half and I’m sure you guys know how frustrating this gets.
My mechanic had it for 5 months and did nothing.
