So, my truck has a little over 1k miles on it now. Most of it short trips. Yesterday after driving about 1.5 hours back from S.C. I park in my friends driveway. Notice antifreeze pouring out of the front. Am instantly like "WTF?". Pop the hood to find the radiator cap not completely locked on. It's only twisted on in the first position, not pushed down and locked. Don't know how much coolant I lost, or how long it was blowing out before I noticed it.

Needless to say I'm freaking p.o.'d. I guess I'll have to PDI every new vehicle I take delivery of. Wonder what else they missed.

Most dealers are just in a hurry to get the new car on the lot. I took my sweet ass time doing PDI's by the book. But in the end, the salesman complimented on how they never had a problem showing the car to a customer. I'd check everything else out and make sure things are tight, pressures correct, and fluids topped off.

When I picked up my 2012 laramie, the tire pressures were 46-48 psi (I have the 20's).

When I asked them why, they said they must have heated up in the sun. I told them if they heated up more than 2-3 psi from the sun, then they must have parked it on mars.

I dropped them down to 36, and all is well.

I've seen pressures rise above 5psi per tire here in TX. Not uncommon seeing how hot the road surface gets. I believe mine calls for 39 psi and I've seen it rise to 41 once before.

Just pulled the tires off my new 13 this weekend and found the lug nuts on the rear tires were barely tight, especially the locking lug. Took no effort at all to break loose. They are supposed to be around 120 ft/lbs (I think that's right), but these were maybe 40 or 50.
Definitely pays to check everything out.

Heh... My truck came with 80 PSI in the tires. Bounced around and rode like a brick.
Why they default the 2500's to 'Heavy load' pressures... beyond me. Got em down to "light load" which is 65/45. Rides like a Caddy... well, compared to before anywho.

At least your fix was an easy one, top her off, and move on with life!

Understand, but it was parked in the shade and had not been driven in over 12 hrs when I checked them.

Dumb question, but you've put a 1,000 miles on the truck and haven't checked the rad level, have you pulled the dipstick yet either.
That's a stretch at a 1,000 miles blaming the dealer,by then you should'va checked things over in my opinion.
I'd say that ones on you more then them, just my 02.

Holly shat! And I thought some of the mechanics leaving 50 psi in a car requiring 35 was high lol.

Maybe it's me but I missed the question. What's checking the radiator level (overflow tank) and a radiator CAP have in common? I've put almost 1000 miles on my truck and I haven't even been driving it 3 weeks yet. Granted it could have been avoided but something as major as leaving the radiator cap off is like leaving the drain plug lose. Shouldn't have to be worried about if you ask me.

That's my thought as well. I paid good money for the DEALER to check this crap before I left the lot. If it blows up because they failed to do something it's on them.

BS,after a 1,000 miles, you should'va checked things over, especially something as easy as the rad level.
Remind me not to buy your used truck .
Who said anything about the rad cap and overflow tank being the same.
Suck it up,some of the problem is your own doing bud.
Checking fluid levels on a new vehicle is pretty standard, even these days.

Mine were at 50psi when i bought it used 2 months ago. I dropped them down to 35ish as per the tires max rating.

Correct and you usually, usually check it at the overflow not the radiator cap itself. Meh, said and done with.
