Im trying to install a bluetooth pedal commander on my 2016 Ram 2500 6.4 but every time I try it keeps activating my electronic throttle and check engine light. I repeated the install several times and made sure to do everything the instructions stated and even had the truck sit a couple hours with the key over 50ft away but it would still produce the same result. When I unplugged the pedal commander and reconnected the stock plug the electronic service light would go away but the check engine light would remain on until I disconnected the battery. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone have any idea of what it could be?

Have you tried updating the PC via the Android app (assuming you have the BT version)?

If I remember correctly the up date was done around February 21st. If you down loaded after that you have the current edition of BT for your PC.

With that out of the way. I have a 2014 2500 6.4 . I get the same codes and the truck goes into limp mode going in to or out of any of the eco mode settings. All the other modes are fine for now anyways.

I'm going to clean the throttle body. I have already load tested the battery and made sure terminals are clean. Serp belt is fine for now.

These ram trucks don't like voltage drops at all. Even my 2003 was picky about it. That and a clean throttle body too.

HTH = hope this helps

Yea I have looked for a way to update it from the app but cant find it. Saw on another post that it was in the support menu but all I can find in there is the installation video.

I just purchased it used at the beginning of the month so I'm not sure if the new update was installed on it or not. I tried looking for a way to update it from the app on my android but had no luck in finding it. I could just be completely missing the update button so I will look again when I get home. I don't plan on ever putting it in eco mode so hopefully once I get it installed I wont have to worry about any more codes.

From Nick @ Got Exhaust about updating: "Is yours a newer bluetooth version? If so then delete the app and re-download it. This will load the latest software of the app and then send the newest firmware to your PC unit. This doesnt happen often but when it does this process almost always works"

You could contact the dealer you purchased it from and ask for a little help.

Don’t want to offend anyone but did you disconnect the battery when you installed it? I think that is in the instructions if I remember correctly. Also what @stimpy433 said!

Try as stated above to delete then download the app again. It will update the PC when it connects via bluetooth. Also makes sure the plugs are fully seated, they should click when they are in all the way.

I suppose you could disconnect the battery. But in the installation instructions there is no mention of doing so.

No offense taken but yes I did also attempt installing the PC with the battery disconnected. That was the last thing I tried before giving up and it still had the same outcome

OP, what exactly where you doing when the first time the ETC fault light came on? Where you at least able to get it hooked up and connected to your phones Bluetooth before it happened? The only time the check engine light should ever come on with that thing is when changing the setting while driving or under rare occasions of making a mode change even when you’re parked, motor running and no throttle input but that’s usually isolated to changing it down to the Eco mode which really isn’t recommended at least with the newer trucks.

But either way, if your CEL has been triggered, it’s only gonna stay on unless you drive the vehicle without it hooked up for quite some time to let it turn off on its own, or if you’ll have to get a OBD-II code reader and clear the code yourself. You can let it sit, hook it back up and disconnect it all you want but if it has already stored a code, it’s not gonna go away just like that if you take the PC outta the loop. Gotta clear that code first before making any more future attempts.

Disconnecting the battery will make the CEL to go out. As long as what made it come on was only related to the PC.

Well, I’ve tried that before on my older truck and that never worked for me. Always had to clear the code with a scanner. Besides, using a code scanner keeps from having to reprogram everything, and keeps from putting everything back I to relearn mode.

The 1st time I got the CEL from going into eco mode. I disconnected the battery to clear it. I didn't reset any thing incl the clock.

Hmm, there must be something different with these fourth-Gens. My third gen wouldn’t reset with a disconnection of the battery cables and if you pulled those off, all your clock/radio settings would be reset along with making the computer relearn all its parameters.

If that works in these trucks, that’s great but I already have a code scanner and that’s just by far easier.
