I have a 2024 2500 6.4 Hemi and just changed the oil last night which i do every 5k miles. I'm at 39850 and when I emptied my oil catch, I was able to pour all of the oil into the 5 quart container even though I fill with 7 quarts for each oil change.

Any one else experiencing this on a 6.4 gas engine? There are no leaks from the filter or oil plug, nor are there any spots in the garage where I park nightly. I'll admit, I don't check the dipstick regularly but i will start checking weekly now that i noticed this.

I would definitely be (cold) checking your oil level every week at a minimum moving forward.

I'd also look into an oil catch can asap, too.

I may also look at removing your spark plugs and checking their current condition (and likely replacing altogether), and a compression test as well.

EDIT ** However, wouldn't hurt to do a thorough throttle body (aka TB) cleaning (remove/service/reinstall) and perhaps a good dose of Seafoam treatment through the intake to clean the gunk inside of it before the spark plugs and TB are removed and replaced/serviced.... just my $0.02 ;)

I'd also be adding two bottles of Red Line SI-1 fuel system treatment as well with a fill up of premium fuel, run it to empty and then refill with premium fuel afterward - all before the spark plugs and TB work is done.

Do you have access to a bore scope?
If so, when the spark plugs are out (after the Seafoam & Red Line SI-1 treatments), check out everything inside to ensure everything is normal/per spec.

**** However, do an oil & filter change promptly after these services ;)
- Very Important!!!!

Did you happen to check it at all before you drained it? I know my 2019 used a quart randomly between changes. No leaks, no smoke
I hadn't been checking it on a regular basis but I will start checking it every week.

What oil do you use? Granted mine is a 200k mile 5.7 but I was losing 1qt over 5k miles when I used 5w20. Now that I switched to 5w30 the level doesn't change.
i'm using Mobil One European synthetic 0w40 which is recommended. I may change living in south Texas w/ the warmer temps.

I had the smallest leak from my oil filter that caused me to lose about a quart on my first OCI. It wasnt enough to see it leaking on the ground, I think I could see the drip off the filter if I remember right. Anyway I have to king kong the filter onto the housing to get it to not leak and I havent had any other issues with it. One of the cap style filter wrenches works pretty well and you definitely need it to remove the filter.

Just bought my first truck '24 2500 gas with 18k miles. Had dealership changed the oil+filter. I'll be monitoring my oil level weekly going forward. Thanks for the heads up on this issue esp before 3/36k.

I swear in the years I was doing my own oil changes. It always seemed that I was coming up short on the spent oil too. Even though I used to check the dipstick quite often. Especially with the oil still in the filter, and the loss when it was spun loose.
Now that I am older, I rarely open the hood for anything.

I would take the vehicle to the dealer and tell them of the low oil level. Perhaps they can examine the engine and begin an oil-consumption test under the power train warranty?

NOBODY Recommended European Vehicle oil. Even when you buy P.U.P. you use the SRT, and not European version.

2021 power wagon burns 1 quart every 6000 miles no leaks no smoke, I think its because the oil is so thin

First of all you added a catch can, is this the first change since? If you're using a larger filter down below it's normal for that to take about a quart. I would change my oil then check the stick two or three times right away after running. On level ground and make sure your at the fill line or just below. Then monitor your level to help make sure if you're even losing oil. 6.4 engines are pretty reliable and it's doubtful you're using oil

Maybe try a different brand. Had some fleet Ford vehicles that the 4.8L would burn oil if Amsoil was used in them, the 5.4L were fine. They changed to a different brand and the problem went away.

I had a tech from RAM ( NOT THE DEALER) tell me that Castrol Euro IS approved for my '24 2500.

The hemi’s dont typically use oil.

Actually, just this morning i realized i am well over due for an oil change on my power wagon (the digital gauge on the dash must have gotten reset when i had a buddy clearing codes a few months back doh!). The truck is a ‘16 6.4 with 130k miles. Just realized i have nearly 10k miles since the last oil change. Just checked the dipstick, oil level shows completely full (almost a little high).

Maybe check tail pipe and see if it's sooted up. May have a intake gasket starting to leak or leaking.

You likely were, and likely still are.

OEMs state that it is acceptable and 'normal' for an engine to burn a quart or two of oil over 5k miles. I don't personally agree, but that's their standard.

I have also religiously changed my oil in the past, and when doing it myself, never got the full amount out that I was putting in, even though the mark on the dipstick barely moved. That's actually somewhat normal though - because your filter is absolutely saturated in oil, and depending on the size it can hold a quart or two that you'll never get back out.
