I bought a 2017 Ram 2500 5.7L last year. Had some alignment issues but think its close to getting resolved. My last Dodge was a 2004 1500. I ended up getting rid of it with about 80,000 miles on it because the transmission was slipping and I didn't want to deal with it (young and money grew on trees back then...). Since that time, I've had 2 Tundras and a Titan. Both excellent trucks but not the best for towing our camper, so here I am. Have the Rams come a long way in transmission performance since 2004? Should I expect to get 150,000-200,000 miles if maintenance is kept up? I do the regular oil changes, fluid checks, will have brakes and rotors check and replaced when needed. Anything special I need to do like maybe a transmission flush or is that just a waste of money? I plan on keeping this truck for the long haul but haven't had a Ram in awhile. Thanks for any info

I recently got a used 2014 2500 5.7 73k Miles. No reason they can and won’t last 200k+ Miles. Used is just that. USED. I’m working on getting all maintenance up to par. Fluids and filters. Then I know for sure what I got. So far no issues with mine. I did have a front hub replaced but that’s been it. I’d say just go through it and put a lil money into it and no reason it won’t last a lifetime

I had a 2009, bought in Jan of that year, 1500 with the 5.7 before I bought my new truck. It went 132,000 miles with no issues that weren't known recalls....before it got totaled :( .The only real issue with the 5.7 that I thought was poor engineering was the manifold bolts breaking. Must have taken it in and had those replaced 3 times which was kind of a PITA.

There is a guy on here that does long hauling with his 6.4 2500 and I think he has over 300k with no issues yet. On the manifold bolts, you just need to have the exhaust manifolds milled down a little bit after some miles so they have heated/cooled enough that they are done warping or just upgrade to headers.

Kev my 2003 Ram quad cab 1500 slt has 250K. 4 speed trans 5.7 Hemi. My wife towed her 2 horse trailer (5000lb loaded) for years. When I got her a newer Ram I took the 03. The only factory issue we ever had was the defective valve spring issue that Dodge had back then. At 150K we lost another valve spring. Had the heads rebuilt and the truck still runs like new. We do preventive maintenance. i.e. service the trans and flush the cooling system every 25K. Other than tires, brakes, belts, shocks and wiper blades we have had no mechanical issues. Given the condition of the truck and the fact that I enjoy it, will probably keep for another 100k. Trans is getting soft at 250k, will rebuild for $2800 later this year. Hope you have good performance from your 2017.
