15HP not 30-40 HP lmao!

View attachment 126182

That's an 03 truck, doesn't compare to the VVT 09's and up,that start out with 395 hp,not 345 hp.The 03's and 09+ trucks use basically the same manifolds, but the 09+ trucks are generating way more exhaust flow then an 03 ever did.If you're gonna argue dyno numbers, find a test that's at least relevant, not a 15 year old test. Dyno numbers don't really mean squat,a dyno is only a tuning tool,1/4 mile times mean more, and I picked up a 1/2 second with headers, argue that one, lol. As stated a used $3,000 blower is only the start, the supporting mods needed to keep a blower functioning properly will easily double that cost. You're not gaining 50% HP and torque with a blower at 6psi,at best you'll gain maybe 150hp,which is a long ways off 50% of 395 hp. 50% of 395 when I went to school is 197.5 hp,and I don't think math has changed that much, lol. Plus the fact you can use a e-mail tune to tune for headers, which will save you some cash over a dyno tune.Throw in the risk of closing up a ringland under boost and blowing parts out,if something isn't spot on with tune,a blower doesn't look all that good if you're on a budget, and the motor goes south on you. Besides I've yet to really see a boosted hemi run all that good at the track for the money invested.Nitrous will generate a faster truck, and is easier to tune for, plus it doesn't stress the crank anywhere near as much as a blower does

Maybe not peak to peak but look at the overall curve that was in your own quoted article. The torque gains were substantial. And you are comparing two different engines, the Hemi’s problem is weak ring lands that fail after 8lbs or so. I’m not arguing one bit that $ for $ a super charger isn’t the best bang for the buck, but again there is so much more involved then just a blower kit. How long is that stock engine and tranny going to hold up to an extra 150 hp? That’s when the cost goes way up

I Bleed Ram Trucks
The shop i bought my twin turbo kit from ran a paxton novi2000 supercharger @ 15# boost with custom grind cams on a 2003 mustang gt (stock motor) just to do a test. It made 600 rwhp but exploded after 1 month. We were all surprised it even lasted that long!!!
From the research i have gathered so far, as long as you only run 6-8# boost on the 8 speed tranny, you will be fine. My 2010 5-speed tranny will probably **** the bed. I havent looked into tranny upgrade kits yet...but when i install a blower...that will be the first thing I do. Sucks I have the 5 speed.
Ripp superchargers has over 30,000 miles making nice hp numbers on their 8-speed tranny and have had no issues.
I am having trouble finding out how much the stock 8-speed can handle.

All correct info, as far as I know the 8 speed has been holding up great to all the mods people have been doing. But, that’s means absolutely nothing to this whole conversation since the op’s and your own truck are only 5-6 speeds. That was the original question, and why I keep saying that your points aren’t lined up to what the question is. Now for my own truck, I know I want to go boosted later. So I’ve built up a strong motor that won’t blow up at 8 lbs and I’m in the process of getting the tranny built as well. Without a doubt I could have spent half the money I’ve invested so far on a supercharger and been done with it, but who knows how reliable it would have been for the 1 month it would have lasted

2012 ram 1500 Hemi ARH LONG TUBE headers, flowmaster exhaust, and a tune. ONLY gained 22 RWHP. (Dyno numbers dont really mean squat) *****!!!
A used blower has everything needed to safely run 6-8 pounds. Dyno tests have proven ring lands do not matter as long as ONLY 6-8 pounds of boost are used. As long as the dyno tuner tunes the motor with the proper fuel/air ratio the motor will be fine.
Clearly you know nothing about forced induction, just stop now and acceot the low numbers that headers give a NA hemi motor before you make a bigger fool of yourself.

Last time I checked this was a Ram Truck site not a 2003 Mustang site, lol. The 8 speed has a constant rating of 516 lb-ft or 700 NM of torque,it'll handle more then that for short periods of time.
The tranny isn't the issue,it's the upper ringlands that are the issue in the newer 5.7's,they use a very narrow ring and a tight ring gap for emissions purposes, and you'll take a piston out long before you'll blow the 8 speed up

LMAO I was running blowers long before you were out of diapers, they look good on paper, but unless you're willing to spend the money for the proper supporting mods, they can be a **** show, and cost you way more money then you've budgeted for.The guy has 3G to work with, quit being an ******* and trying to talk him into something he can't afford. 3G isn't gonna put a used blower on his truck along with the rest of the supporting mods needed. BTW at 8 psi on a late model hemi you better be running water/**** injection to,i don't see anywhere where you've mentioned that. He'd be farther ahead with a $1,000 nitrous kit and a set of long tube headers and a good e-mail tune from somebody like jay greene, with his $3,000 dollar budget, and generate more torque

Op said he would like to buy a procharger but only has $3,000. He can buy a used procharger easily for $3,000.
His second concern is he has 120,000 miles. As long as he keeps his boost at 8# he should be fine. I have 120,000 on my truck as well. 120,000 miles is a lot of miles, and its just a matter of time before the motor ***** the bed with this many miles. When my motor goes, I will be replacing it with a forged 392 stroker from Arrington. (Who even states a stock hemi is fine blown 8# boost and below)

Im 38 and have installed plenty of blowers and turbo kits.
What kind of blowers have you installed and what kind of vehicles? A used $3k procharger kit has every supporting mod needed to safely run 8#. All the OP would need is a custom dyno tune. ($300).
The OP spending $1,000 + on headers that will only add 15HP would be unwise. Dollor for HP he would be better off with a used procharger kit. (But you say im being an assehole) lol! And there is no need to run **** injection at 8# boost and below. Sounds like you are the kind of guy that cant handle being proved wrong, and get all sorts of mad. Haha!
The 2012 ram dyno test i included above had long tube headers, flowmaster exhaust, and a tune. ONLY produced 22Rwhp and 5-6 Rwhp of that was from the flowmaster exhaust.

I guess mentioning my forced induction knowledge isnt allowed on a performance motor subject. LOL!
Seems even Arrington knows stock Hemis can handle 8 psi safely. But i guess they dont know what they are talking about. They only specialize building forced induction 4th gen Hemi motors. SMH.

This is the kind of thing someone that refuses to be proved WRONG posts. Lol

Ok I will spell it out as clearly as I can for one last time.

1. This has nothing to do with an 8 speed truck. His transmission WILL NOT HOLD UP for any length of time with an extra 150-180 hp. This has been proven hundreds of times, so much so that people are swapping in GM transmissions because they are tired of blowing them. Fact!

2. Op had a posted budget of $3,000. I follow multiple Hemi sites and pages for classified ads on Hemi Parts and have seen a single procharger set up for a Hemi for less then $3500. That’s the cheapest I’ve seen as well, most are well above that. Where in that 3 grand do you plan on replacing a transmission after it blows????? Fact!

3. Nobody on here has even hinted that a supercharger doesn’t get huge gains, we ALL KNOW THAT. We all realize that for getting this magical on sale used pro charger kit will ABSOLUTELY get the best bang for the buck horsepower. Apparently you don’t care that he won’t be driving the truck much after the trans goes and he has to figure out how to spend about another several thousand to fix it! Every post besides yours has clearly stated that a blower kit is just the beginning. Add in a tuner, add in a dyno time, or email tuner (plan on $300-$600) and you are just blowing past the stated budget. Hint, that means it’s not relevant to the original question.

4. We all know the Hemi will take 6-8lbs. That’s been proven for years, that’s not a question. But that’s still a ticking time bomb with the weak pistons. Get a bad tune/bad fuel as stated before and suddenly you only have 7 pistons inside the engine and a new cooling jacket that lets fresh air keep the pistons cool. That was proven a few months ago on a stock Hemi engine, by a member on this forum.

5. With all these claimed years of experience with boost you should be the first one to know that you aren’t being realistic that this guy will have a reliable setup in his budget. That’s all that needs said.

I’m said my points, good luck. If you still want to argue, fine but I’m done.

Wow, this thread escalated quickly... Kind of expected it to lol...

I just browsed through most of it... But a couple of things I noticed... A Dyno chart for JBA cat4wards was referenced, which are shorties. I installed my JBA 1 3/4 LT's for less than a grand and definitely noticed an increase throughout the powerband.

Also... Where the hell can I pickup a used procharger kit for $3K? I really want a Whipple but will buy a used procharger today for $3K.

Like the OP, I have 120,000 on my truck, and its just a matter of time before the motor goes. I suggest a custom tune, and a cat back exhaust. Spending $1,000 + on a set of headers that only give 15 rwhp would be the absolute last thing to do. Start saving for a new motor. I have already started saving for when my motor goes.
The $4,000 for a new 6.4L forged stroker shortblock is a great price, but not everyone has $4,000 laying around when the engine happens to die.

If I could do it again I wish I would of done a 6.1 based 426. Unfortunately 5.7 blocks are about $300 and a used 6.1 block is way over $1500 now, if you can find them.

Keep an eye on ebay. I saw one on there a few weeks ago, auction ended at $3,000. Personally Im not a fan of centrifugal blowers. When my motor blows, and i get the arrington forged stroker, I will be getting a whipple or kenne bell.

I'll have to do that. I'd love to save $7K for a Whipple but I have troubles trying to save money lol. I always seem to spend it on something else once I get around the $3K mark. So, if I could buy a procharger at that price point to keep me entertained until I can maybe eventually save to splurge on a Whipple, then resell the procharger, that'd be the way to go for me lol.
